I gave her motrin and checked her 30 mins later, Should it have gone down? How long should I wait before taking her to the ER? She has only ate a few crackers all day and the night before she threw up her supper around midnight. She has been drinking though...

This is usually just a sickness they must go through and it wont go any faster at the ER. They are OK till the temp gets up to 104 or 105. If they are getting too warm sometimes a lukewarm to cool not cold bath will lower the body temperature. Bugs are going around. Also Motrin can take longer than 30 minutes.

1. Is she keeping the fluid down?
2. Was that episode of vomiting you mention
the only occasion where she's thrown up?
3. Is her temp. lower than 39?
4. If you gently pinch a fold of skin anywhere
on her body, does it spring back into place
pretty well immediately?
5. Is she alert?

If the answer to any of these is "no", take her to an E.R.

you can try alternating tylenol and motrin this normally helps. She probaly thew up b/c of her fever. (sometimes when they get to hot it may make the things unsettled in their tummy. If you take her to the ER all there going to do is give her tylenol and motrin, If her fever gets to high and she has other symptoms (if it starts to worry you to much take her, better safe then sorry) you can also give her plenty of fluids. Sometimes motrin and tylenol may not kick in for about 45-to an hour. You can also try a luke warm bath. NOT a Hot Bath. Hope she gets to feeling better . I know its rough when the little ones are not feeling well.

If she is still taking in fluids she'll be fine. Fever is her bodies way of fighting infection. Keep her comfortable with the motrin..I think it would make her feel worse to be taken to the ER over a fever.

For a temp its a tepid bath, not hot not cold. Panadol or eqivalent. If you little one becomes lethargic or you see a rash go to the ER straight away, if the temp doesnt come down also go.

In all honesty the er will not concider it to be important until the temp is about 103. I don't know what your child's is, but I usually give a hot bath and use tylenol...it breaks the fever and puts them to sleep for a while..
