Air to breath, food, water and shelter are necessities. Sex? Not on the list.

No, if both people agree not to engage in sex, then a marriage can still survive on the devotion, loyalty and love.

However, sex is an important part of expressing intimacy between married couples and if the person has their mind and heart right, sex goes further than just getting "off". It can increase deeper feelings between couples, seals their relationship and creates a bond.

If both people decide not to have sex, and they are happy to live without it, it's just FINE! So long as both parties agree and are contented and can live loving eachother as life long companions, sharing in every other aspect, other than sex. it's not the foundation of a marriage and shouldn't be anyway.

well, i am almost 33 years old and have never once had sexual intercourse.. i am alive and well, so i suppose it isn't mandatory to have sex. then again, my life feels empty without it. .not necessarily that i need sex, but what's really been misisng is love.. romance..

being alone is not fun. it can be depressing.. i can masturbate all i want, and that will fulfill my physical needs, but it's just not the same..

i would say that love is necessary in our lives. without it, life can be very lonely and depressing. (i consider sex to be a part of love). sex without love is something i will never have..

For you, perhaps not.

For me, it is very necessary. Sex - whether with a partner or solo - is as natural a function as breathing or needing water.

It gives us more than just pleasure; it releases endorphins which are benificial to the body, it can elevate our self-esteem, it can bond us with another person, and it can approach meditation and take us to new and higher planes of pleasure.

Have you heard the saying there is more to life then sex, it is called LOVE, there is a difference. Sex is a expression of your love in a commited married relationship.

Honestly sex is part of a healthy lifestyle for ADULTS. More and more studies are proving just how important sex is to overall health and well-being.

Why do or would we humans deny ourselves something we all desire to do and benefit from greatly?

My wife would answer 'no' to this, but there is no way that I could live without it! So I say YES it is necessary!

no, it isn't necessary in our life, but if the human race is to continue, then yes, it's necessary. Besides, it can be a lot of fun.

Some psychologists think so (i.e. Maslow), but if you're asexual, it's OK not to have it. If you have urges, however, it's probably best to satisfy them before you explode. I have a friend who hates the idea of sex, but has agreed to at least lose his virginity, probably just so he can say that he did.
