Keep a portable kennel handy. When the dog acts up, tell him "no," then put him in the kennel for about 15 minutes. He'll calm right down. Another tip, when telling the dog "no," is to grab him by the loose skin on the back of his neck and give him a shake at the same time as you say "no."
Both of these tips are training methods recommended by an animal behaviorist who studied dogs in the wild. It's how mother dogs calm down their pups...by shaking them by the neck (not violently of course) and putting them in their den and blocking the entrance with their bodies...so the dogs react to these techniques very instinctively.

How old is he? If he's still a puppy or a teenager then he'll grown out of it. I have 2 pit mixes and they never listened, they were very hard to discipline. They chewed on eevrything possible; sofas, tables, walls, clothing, dishes, etc. Thank god, they eventually grew out of their puppy age. I would def. try to get him trained though, it'll make it so much easier for you in the future. A trainer will def. show you how to take control. You can even try a boom or video. And try raising you voice. But you always have to be firm.

Try obedience classes. Without being able to access the situation it sounds like you need to establish that you are alpha. Right now he thinks he's in charge, in other words he thinks he's the leader of the pack. I do not think he's playing, he's trying to "put you in your place" of beta dog-or the submissive. In the very least he is challenging you for your alpha position.

You have to say "no" very firmly and in a deep voice (or as deep as you can manage). Also try looking him in the eye, putting your hands on your hips, and standing very tall--that's an authoritative position.
If he still won't stop, grab his muzzle when you say "no" so that he understands the specific action you are telling him to stop.

Take him to obedince class. Then he will learn to concentrate more on you then on nipping you. Also you will gain his respect. Dog want to please you, you just need to show them how. By saying No doesn't show your dog how to please you. It tells him that you don't like what he is doing but he will keep going if he has nothing better to do! Best of Luck, your dog is very smart.
