I would like to tr my hand at creating animations...Any recomended programs or...??

Macromedia Flash is the most commonly used I guess. In case u are not a pro at animation, flash should work just fine. 3D animation requires sophisticated software like MAYA or 3Ds max (I call it sophisticated since I don't know how to use it). If u are not comfortable using any of this software then use the conventional way.( creating slides with minor changes in each successive slide to simulate motion)

You can use Macromedia Flash for 2D animations.
For 3D animation you can use MAYA or 3D Studio Max.
You would have to learn a lot to start animating anything!!!
