It really depends on the area you live in and how you care for the dog.
Vets near big cities tend to charge more than those in rural areas but evan those are fairly expensive.Monthly heartwormers and flea treatments are pricey and most people swear they are unnecessary expenses but the dog will be much happier if fleas are'nt an issue and so will you as fleas carry worm larvae.Your dog eats the flea and the worms develope inside and you've got 2 problems to cure not one.Heartwormers also protect against other types of worms as well. And if you can't afford a few dollars every month for the pills how on earth are you to afford paying well over $1,000 to rid the dog of heartworms should it get them?
Will the dog you get need to be groomed regularly or will it be short coated so you can do it yourself?
Food is an entirely personal choice but the better brands while they cost more will undoubtedly keep your dog healthier in the long-run.
Some shots you can give yourself if you're brave enough to do so but you still have to have a vet administer the rabie shot. You can get a 3 year shot rather than a yearly one but the first shot can only be a year one.County registration fees are often cheaper if you register the dog for 3 years.Rabie shot for 3 years is also cheaper in the long run to get.
No matter how well you care for the dog accidents still occur which will undoubtedly require a trip to the vet so you need to plan for emergency visits you'll have to pay for.
You can train the dog yourself to save some money. There are lots of places you can get training guides. The library is excellant.
So now we're down to the extras-collars,leashes,beds and toys.Which will cost as little or as much as you want it too.

Depends on the dog breed and size. Big dogs eat a lot; little dogs not so much. Some breeds have to be cut and groomed (unless you learn to do it yourself); some breeds don't need to be bathed at all if you keep them brushed. When you check out food prices make sure you are looking at premium foods, not the junk sold in supermarkets and warehouse stores.
Spaying (female) or neutering (male) is an absolute must and is a one-time expense. Spaying is generally more expensive than neutering
You have to provide the proper shots (some are necessary once a year; some only once every three years) and you have to provide heart worm preventative and flea/tick preventative. These can be pricey, especially if you have a big dog. Some dogs need to have their teeth cleaned often but a good dry dog food can help to minimize that.
If cost is a real concern you should consider a small mixed breed dog. You are less likely to run across some of the health problems connected with the pure-bred dogs.

shots are a once a year expense and vary from place to place, as well as size. food is dependent on size of the dog. large breeds eat several times the amount of something like a chihuahua or dachsund. it can also vary by what brand food, and the amount of food purchased. shampoo, for a large dog, if you take it to a shop is usually done three or four times a year. if you do it at home, it just takes time and a couple dollars for the shampoo. by keeping a dog brushed, and clean, the expense is less over time, since it won't be as dirty and requires less bathing. additionally, you'll have to have a liscence for it each year. the total expense may run from 150 a year to several hundred for a large dog. and don't forget the treats and toys you'll give it.

How much you spend will depend on the size of the dog. Spaying and neutering you will spend less on a smaller dog than a large-reason anesthesia, materials (sutures), and time(large breeds take more time than smaller ones. Heartworm and flea preventative will also be less for small breed dogs. Shampoo is less for small dogs as they require less. Food depends also on size, but how much you spend per bag/can depends on he brand you buy. If you choose to have a generic-Walmart Ol' Roy (yuck) it is full of fillers and not much nutritional value not to mention you are going to have a lot of poop. At the very least go with a well known brand- ex Purina. Personally I go to the pet store and get Fromm's Gold Maintenance. Its more expensive but its worth it. My dog sheds less on a high quality diet, poops less and is more healthy, not to mention he eats less because it has less fillers than most grocery and generic brands. Vaccines or shots run the same for large, small, medium, or giant dog breeds.
The best thing is to call area vets and price them out-do comparison shopping. If you are planning on having your pet professionally groomed do the same. However it is important to remember not to look at price only-look at the quality of the service. Is the clinic/groomer clean, are all of your questions answered, does the vet and techs seem to like what they are doing, how do they handle your pet, does the clinic come highly recommended by other pet owners etc...

it Depends on the size of the dog. If it is a very big dog it could end up in the thousands of dallors. Now it is a smaller dog it would not be as much. Ask friends and family as they could help you out as well

Well depends where you live. How big your dog is will depend how much food he will eat and how much shampoo he will need and all that, but I'd say about $1,000 - $1,500 a year max.

It depends on the size of your dog and the money you have in the pocket. You should have thought about that before buying the dog.
