I've tried counting numbers, breaths, and sheeps. I've tried listening to the rain outside. Thoughts of my life, daily life, and upcoming duties keep flooding in my mind, a bit of anxiety maybe, but how do I overcome this, I want a good night's sleep for Christmas with the family!

Some yoga and/or meditation would be good, if you know how to do that ... and if it works for you.

You could also make some warm milk ... the tryptophane in it would relax you and ease you into slumber.

Try sleeping in a different part of your house, like the couch or the floor or something. If that doesn't work then you probably need to clear your mind before you even try to go to bed. While you are already in the bed is not the time for this. Try meditation, with relaxing music, like those cd's they sell at walmart or something. Also, a hot bath before bedtime usually does the trick

Xanax, but that requires a prescription!!

Over the counter, Melatonin works too...but since Christmas is tomorrow, just think of something fun you like to do that's relaxing, that usually works for me while I am tossing and turning in bed!

Saw some great answers... just want to add - relaxation tapes are great, too (or guided meditation). There seems to be more to this than just your mind running and being unable to sleep. You mentioned that you are feeling anxious. Perhaps a therapist could help you with your anxiety.

I do get the same problem sometimes. Try keeping yourself busy(tv,books, games) for a while & try sleeping again. Avoid late night showers.

Cut caffeine out of your diet. Take a couple of Benedryl before going to bed. Or talk to your doctor.

Try listening to the radio or t.v. or pray. Praying is a very good way to fall asleep quickly.
