I empathize with you, something similar happened to me. Anyway someone answered me in ANSWERS and they suggested vaseline to smother them, had none so used bag balm and it worked. The only problem was it takes (depending on length of hair and how much you put on) about 5 to 7 shampoos to get it all out. But the person I used it on loved the new "wet look" that it gave her hair. Oh, you have to leave the vaseline on for a couple of hours to make sure it smothers them all, anyway that's how we did it. She said her head stopped itching almost immediately though and was thankful that they were gone. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

I'm in Australia, and I use NeutraLice. It's 99% tea tree oil, and 1% lavender oil. The tea tree oil kills the lice and most eggs on contact. One treatment now, another one in about five days, and they're gone. Works every time. Of course, you need a good quality lice comb. I have a metal one with blunt ends so it doesn't hurt/damage the scalp.
As a bonus, the oil leaves their hair in beautiful condition, unlike the chemical shampoos, which practically destroy it.
The NeutraLice is available here in pharmacies, so I'd look there first, and if you have no luck, try a health food store.

There must be special pharmacies open right? Go to any open pharmacy. Ask them for a medicated shampoo for lice. Head lice is not something to worry about. Wait for a couple of days if all stores are closed. Your stepkids wont die with headlice!

the best you can do for now is put them in ONE room and not let them roam all over the house. Everything they come in contact with is somethign else YOU are going to have to sterilize!!
I know of no household remedy for lice.
when you get to the store, buy RID
good luck with that
