I think that Islam is a valid path to God, just as other religions are in my opinion. And just like EVERY religion, Islam has both good and bad adherents. I've certainly met more good ones than bad ones.
Islam means submission to God, and a religion that focuses on submitting to God as its main goal, will find God.

Islam, like all other religions has it good and bad points. It is my experience that the majority of Muslims are peace loving people and that this is true for Christians and Hindus and Bhuddists as well. The problem is that it is some of the most violent and aggressive members of any culture which are the ones who tend to rise into positions of leadership and these people are prone to perpetuate hatred and violence because prejudice and anger are easily manipulated by greed for political power.
So Islam, like other religions, becomes a political tool, and those who make Islam into a political tool for their personal power and agrandizement are prone to hide their personal disrespect of the principles of their religion by declaring themselves the most ardent supporters of their religious laws and customs. Such hypocrisy is typical of leaders and as a consequence this sort of hypocrisy becomes an inculturated part of our nations and religions because the members of our societies tend to emulate their leaders' examples.
True Islam is a very devout form of worship of god. The religious laws of Islam are complex and demanding and are taken very seriously by most Muslims I have met. My father was a Muslim so I have a fairly strong experience of what Islam is, both in its ideals and in its practices.
If I find any strong fault with Islam it is that I believe their social attitudes toward women are deplorable, but then this is true for Bhuddists, Hindus and Christians as well.
The best that I can say in this regard is that I am pleased to observe that Muslim women in nations all over the world are finding a voice for themselves and speaking out for change and standing up for their rights and empowering themselves to take roles in leading their people which appear to be directing Islam back on track, to recreate Islam as a model for peace and love and justice in the world.

I live in an Islamic country so I am surrounded by Muslims, including my husband and his family. I find them to be some of the most open, accepting and loving people I have ever met. The Muslims here are truly patient and peaceful, Allah-loving individuals.

We must become Ambassadors of our religion, (for those Muslims in North America or Europe) and gain authentic knowledge on Islam and live as the Prophet did, with righteousness and worshipping him much. I believe we can take back our religion from terrorists, and remove bad rulers, and unite the Muslim nations (I am only 18) but Inshallah I will see this happen with my own eyes!

Muslims are basically good people. But the religion must come out of the 11th century. Religions have always had to keep up with changing times. Too many Muslim women feel oppressed with many fearful of talking about it openly. If this does not change it will cause problems for Islam.

I'm more familiar with Christianity but since you asked....My impression is that Islam is a mixed bag of good and bad just as Judeo-Christianity is.
In principle Islam teaches the Golden Rule, peace and justice and tolerance same as Judeo-Christianity. In practice Islamic history includes lots of violence and war and intolerance and injustice -- likewise Judeo-Christianity history.
As for people, there are many decent, respectable and honorable Islamic people and some that are less decent. Same can be said for Jews and Christians.

People are people wherever and whoever they are, but Islam is a terrible influence on them. I have many Muslim friends (who are mostly younger than me) and I get into arguments with them all the time because I tell them what I think about Islam.
It's sexist, homophobic, hostile to all non-believers and is in the business of world domination (and has been from the outset). Allah comes across like the head of a gangster organisation and the Qu'uran advocates some of the most disproportionate and barbaric punishments you will ever find.

Peaceful, except for the stupid extremists who make it sound like every Muslim is a walking terriost. And in the Middle East, women should be more pro-active in religious actions, not just brushed aside like a fly. But im not Muslim, im Christian, but that is my point of view...

I believe that it is the truth, that if it is followed wholly, it shall lead the followers to the path of success, both in this world and the hereafter.
I'm a Muslim too. I think that Muslims today are not following Islam wholly. Look at us. We live in poverty, oppression, ruled by corrupt kings and politicians, fighting amongst ourselves, and more. This isn't what Islam is all about.
