I have read a lot about Borderline Personalities. The relationship with my gf has always been weird (which WAS what I liked about it) but now it's just...whoa! and I am wondering (no need to suggest anything; I have read a lot of info and accounts) if anyone can share an experience w/ anyone they knew was (by diagnosis) or strongly suspected was. What went down?

Pretty much what Bailey said. Either learn to set good boundaries and follow through, or ride the roller coaster with them. I don't suggest the latter. I have a relationship with a friend with the disorder, however I am clear what I can and cannot do with and for her.

I have a good understanding of the disorder and am able to maintain a level of distance and seperation between seeing her as a person and what is the disorder. She has improved alot over the years and the relationship is tolerable.

It is not uncommon for people with this disorder to seek rescue in many forms. Your best bet is to not engage in this and to help her discover who she is. I have always thought Search for the Real Self was the best book out there written about this disorder.

Oh yes... and if you decide to stay with her, get support for yourself. Lots of it. Best of luck.

A shrink once asked me how i got bpd, he said there was only two ways to get it. 1) they don't know what you have. 2) the docotor did not like you. Well in my case it was the doctor did not like me. You see i had been in the hospital, and this doctor was not mine that time, and he was always kicking me out of my room cause he needed to talk to my roommate who was his patient. So i started calling him names, and not very nice ones i must say. Well next time is was in that hosiptal who should i get as a doctor, the same man i called all those names too. That is now i got that diagnosis. So kind of check to see if they are really bpd, or if it was one of those other two ways of getting diagnosised that ........

Merry Christmas

My best friend in college was BPD. It was hard because she was always pushing me away and then sucking me back in.
Finally I had to walk away. Not what I would have liked to do but I was starting to have problems myself from all of the stress.
