my girlfriend tans in a bed but not alot, i think it makes ur skin look sexier and I plan on start going too.

whoever said u should start out at like 30 mins is crazy that should be your max time in there once youve been doing it a while but i wouldnt ever do it that long, you should start out tanning(in a bed) for about 8-10 minutes and odds are you might get burned anyway.

I do prefer the sun tan look over the bedtan look tho because its not as bad for ur skin

Based on personal experience and by observing my friends, it is very difficult for fair skinned people to get tanned.

One thing, is that naturally fair skinned people will get red instead of dark after tanning for that day. You might suffer from a terrible sunburn the following day and the pain will last about one whole week. You might even be nicknamed 'lobster" for that particular week.

Another thing is that a fair sknned person such as yourself might not have enough Melanin in your skin. Which means that your skin is not as protected thatn dark skinned people's skin. The melanin is the pigment that makes your skin dark, the darkening process is a counter effect that your skin has on exposure to sunlight. The more sunlight you receive the more pigment is produced (to a certain limit of course).

You do not have the amount of melanin enough to protect yourself, thus instead of having a nice golden tan, you will get a nasty red sunburn.

I know you do have a plan, but I am not exactly you. You might want to try for a few months and see if your skin responds well.

If you want to get a lasting tan, do not tan like the way that you've described. You should tan daily, at a 1-2 hour per day basis. The morning sun is the best, about 9am. But I'm used to the 12pm sun, where it is very intense. But be careful, use some protection. I use suntan lotion. with SPF 5.

This is what I think.

I was really pale...so during the winter I would NOT wear white...like albino or something. I hated it...so I decided to buy a tanning package. It worked for me...after 10 tans I could see color...but start off with 7 mins, trust me otherwise you would get sunburned! If you have never tanned before thats how long you should go for. When your skin enhances with some color...anything you wear would look great! Tanning is bad...so dont get addicted to it.

Having some color on your skin makes you look healthy, opposite to an anemic pale tone. But it be addictive because the sun triggers chemicals that make you feel good. Have you seen these ladies with the Marlboro lines on their faces and sagging skin? Well that's what happens. I got to this cause they're addicted to nicotine as well as the sun. Anyhow you shoudn't expose yourself for more than an hour and I recommend you use somekind of SPF on your screen. Personally when I tan, I don't do it regularly, I use dark tanning oil so my skin won't dry up. If it does then it gets greasy cause all that heat wants to come out. After laying out try using Aloe on your skin so you won't peel. Oh and two words 'skin cancer'

you really shouldn't. Being a a tanning bed for 30 min. is equal to like 2 hours in the normal sun, how unhealthy does that sound! and skin cancer is not attractive

You should try a light spray on tan. those are good and looks natural. they last for about a week.

or the best thing i think would be Build-A-Tan Gradual Sunless Tanning (also available for face)By Neutrogena. it gradually builds it everyday and you just apply it like lotions to the parts of your body that is more seen everyday. about 8 dollars

:) hope that helped

I personally don't like tanning beds becuase I don't really need to go to them. And one time, my friend came out looking like a tomato because she's Irish and has really pale skin. However, I don't need to use them because I live in FL and get a natural tan all year long.

Tanning is very bad for you! Causes skin cancer, wrinkles..yuk. I used to tan all the time, if I could do it again, I wouldn't go near a tanning bed or I wouldn't have fried my skin in the sun to look dark! Trust me! I am reminded every day I look in the mirror, I just had to have another surgery to remove sqamcell (skin cancer) IT HURT! Not to mention if you don't have insurnace, the cost is out of this world!
DON'T DO IT!

exposing your body to too much sun or tanning bed is actually bad as you get exposed to UV and UVB lights which is bad for your skin..The effect is you will wrinkle younger and your skin will look 5-10 years older than your true age. If you are pale, try wearing make up that will enhance your features like your eyes and your lips. Wear blush so that your face won't look white.

Dont tan. Not in a bed, not in the sun. Always wear sunscreen of at least 15. In about 20 years youll be glad you did... unless you are into the leathered and wrinkley look.

Nothing wrong with pale skin. I, personally, don't know why everyone is so obsessed with being dark. Artificial tanning ages the skin like no other.
