hi
im using win98
when the window boots,i hear the windows booting sound from the speakers
but when i play audio wav file or streaming audio through windows media player
and/or winamp,,,,there is allmost no sound of the playing file
ive tried to adjust the 'volume settings',but to no avail
can you help

Try using different speakers. It may be something that simple.

Some wav files and other multimedia require a Dolby decoder. Check for one on Google.

find out the manufacturer, and the model number of your sound card. Then use the name to search for its driver for win98. You will find it easily, download the software on your computer and install it.
Try a pc audit software to detect the hardware or if you can open the case of your computer and look it for yourself.
