Why do people get nosebleeds?
The nose is a part of the body that is very rich in blood vessels (vascular) and is situated in a vulnerable position on the face. As a result, any trauma to the face can cause bleeding. The bleeding may be profuse, or simply a minor complication. Nosebleeds can occur spontaneously when the nasal membranes dry out, crust, and crack. This is common in dry climates, or during the winter months when the air is dry and warm from household heaters. People are more susceptible to bleeding if they are taking medications which prevent normal blood clotting (Coumadin, warfarin, aspirin, or any anti-inflammatory medication). In this situation, only a very minor trauma could result in significant bleeding.
The incidence of nosebleeds is higher during the colder winter months when upper respiratory infections are more frequent, and the temperature and humidity fluctuate more dramatically. In addition, changes from a bitter cold outside environment to a warm, dry, heated home results in drying and changes in the nose which will make it more susceptible to bleeding. Nosebleeds also occur in hot dry climates with low humidity, or when there is a change in the seasons. The following list of factors predispose people to nosebleeds:
Infection
Trauma
Allergic and non-allergic rhinitis
Hypertension
Use of "blood thinning medications"
Alcohol abuse
Less common causes include, tumors and inherited bleeding problems

Extremely thin skin/membranes/mucosa inside the nasal passage, allergies, dry weather etc.
Types of nosebleeds:
Anterior nosebleed: Most nosebleeds begin in the lower part of the septum, the semi-rigid wall that separates the two nostrils of the nose. The septum contains blood vessels that can be broken by a blow to the nose or the edge of a sharp fingernail. This type of nosebleed comes from the front of the nose and begins with a flow of blood out one nostril when the patient is sitting or standing.
Posterior nosebleed: More rarely, a nosebleed can begin high and deep within the nose and flow down the back of the mouth and throat even if the patient is sitting or standing.
Additional Causes Of Nosebleeds:
Allergies, infections, or dryness that cause itching and lead to picking of the nose.
Vigorous nose blowing that ruptures superficial blood vessels in the elderly and in the young.
Clotting disorders that run in families or are due to medications.
Fractures of the nose or of the base of the skull that can cause bleeding and should be regarded seriously when the bleeding follows a head injury.
Rarely, tumors (both malignant and nonmalignant) have to be considered, particularly in the older patient or in smokers.
Types Of Nosebleeds
Obviously, when the patient is lying down, even anterior (front of nasal cavity) nosebleeds may seem to flow posteriorly, especially if the patient is coughing or blowing his nose.
It is important to try to make the distinction since posterior (back of nasal cavity) nosebleeds are often more severe and almost always require a physician’s care. Posterior nosebleeds are more likely to occur in older people, persons with high blood pressure, and in cases of injury to the nose or face.
Anterior nosebleeds are common in dry climates or during the winter months when heated, dry indoor air dehydrates the nasal membranes. Dryness may result in crusting, cracking, and bleeding. This can be prevented if you place a bit of lubricating cream or ointment about the size of a pea on the end of your fingertip and then rub it inside the nose, especially on the middle portion of the nose (the septum).

Epistaxis is nose bleeding, which occurs from the anterior or posterior portion of the nasal septum. Diagnosis is by direct visualization. Treatment varies by site of bleeding but includes cautery and various types of packing.
Please see the web pages for more details on Nosebleed.

^- nose picking.
My cousin had that problem..
she couldn't stop bleeding.
She didn't pick her nose..
or i don't think soo?
lol
Its because she was lack of vitamins i think.
And because her bones were very weak.
She's very very skinny
She's like 53 pounds, and a fifth grader.
When i was in fifth grade i was about 60 pounds.. 62? 63?
she's pretty short.
So i guess its lack of health.
Hope that helped.

nose-picking is one of the main reasons. another one is if you get sick, and you try to blow your nose too hard, you may pop a blood vessel (happened to me before, and it wasn't pretty). another one is not enough moisture in the environment you're in..if its too dry, your nose may bleed. you may need to buy a humidifier.

depends.. if you live in a dry climate it can be that your nasal passage just dries out and if you scratch it you will rupture a little blood vessel... sometimes though it can be more serious like high blood pressure so if you get them all the time go to the doctor.
