I have a cat I have had since I was five years old. He is almost 11. He is fixed and is in good health. I used to let him in and out, but he fights other cats too much so now I keep him inside with my 3 year old inside cat. How long do you believe he will live? I have had him so long that it is going to be really sad the day he dies. Almost like losing a little brother. Please tell me some info.

Any cat older than 10 years old is considered an older, geriatric cat. Indoor only, altered, and certain breeds of cats tend to have greater longevity. I had a cat that was 21 years old when she died, but typically my cats have died before they were 15. You've eliminated a lot of accidental type ways your cat might die by keeping him indoors, but cat mortality is no different than any other animal. There are still accidents, injuries, and illnesses that might take your cat's life. A relationship a person has with a pet can be just as meaningful as their relationships with other people. You will never know when your last day with your cat might be, so make the most of the present.

One of my cats is almost 11 too! He still goes outside alot and is very active. He's been in alot of fights in his lifetime, and I worry about letting him out now that he's becoming an "old man". But there's no way I could keep him indoors now, he's so used to being outside that if he were locked up in the house for a week, he'd be bouncing off the walls! I know cats 10yrs and older are considered "elderly". Indoor cats will tend to live longer that outdoors. A cat that lives to be 15-18 has had a good length of life. And 20+yrs, that's pretty lucky!

Average age is about 15-17, depending sometimes on the breed. Siamese cats or mixed Siamese cats tend to have longer lifespans. Indoor cats tend to live longer.

The oldest cat I ever treated was 23 years old.

It is not unheard of for an indoor cat to live for 20 years.
Most live at least 15 years.

Cats and dogs have a life span of 20-30 yrs. normally. It really depents on how you take care of it and how it acts or what will happen to it.
