Certified Police Officers are generally authorized to carry concealed, off duty firearms. Each jurisdiction and State has rules that govern them specifically, so you'd have to research State and agencies specific rules.

As for Federal law, in 2004, H.R. 218: "The Law Enforcement Officers' Safety Act," was passed in Congress which allows Police to carry concealed, off duty weapons. There is some limitations, for example, a Police officer could not carry his weapon while conducting the White House tour.

Generally, the Officer must qualify with the weapon, same as their service weapon, receive approval from their department to carry the weapon, and the firearm and ammunition must be approved. There is no requirement to have a person's law enforcement credentials or badge visible, that is the reason it's called a off duty weapon.

The reason a Police Officer carries an off duty, concealed firearm, is to protect themselves or another person from death or serious bodily injury.

Generally, no. If the Reserve Officer wants to carry off duty he must get a concealed carry permit like any other citizen. Some reserve officers might only work security details for special events or only work when the department runs short handed. Training time and liability issues do not allow for reserve officers to be granted the same privileges full time officer have.

yes they ( as long as their department oks it, and most actually require it) they are to carry a weapon ( not always the duty weapon) 24 hours a day. Their badge does not have to be visible, but they are to carry thier police ID with them.

As of Sept 2004, all certified peace officers in the US can carry their weapon, hidden, anywhere in the USA. And the badge can be hidden as well.

I believe that a law officer is supposed to wear his duty weapon at all times when in his own jurisdiction. I do not know about outside his jurisdiction.

Probably, since the cops look out for one another. But most of them would probably take a CCW (Conceal and Carry Weapons) class and get the permit just because they know It's good to keep their gun with them.

POST certified police officers don't need to apply for a "concealed weapons permit". Where are the officers? they are not on this cite.

You can carry off duty.
But not out of state, unless you are there in an official capacity (which of course, wouldn't be off-duty).

i don't think so. in fact i'm pretty sure that unless they are on duty or attending a specific function *like a funeral or something* where they have to be in uniform they aren't supposed to have their gun with them. but i could be wrong, and that might just be the way things are where i'm from.
