There are a small number of christians, a few whom I've personally seen and heard, preach that music is sinful (in any form other than vocal) ....So is dancing.....think of the movie "Footloose" They attest these things to being "of the world"....(If it's SO bad, why don't they leave "the world" behind, toss their clothes and run wild and free like aborigines? *LOL* I aint gonna miss em!!)
Call them....hyper-conservative, I suppose?? For lack of a better title *lol* FANATICAL-PURITANICAL is more like it *bwahahahaaa*
Some of them even believe that drinking alcohol, even responsibly and moderately....would mark you for hell for sure....Uh...#1) According to christian scripture, aren't we ALL ALREADY? and #2) Wasn't Christ depicted in the bible drinking wine....MULTIPLE TIMES??? *HAH* Them crazy christians!!!
Well, ok....Enough blatherings about MY opinion....I came across some links that might answer your question more in-depth than I....But be advised: they're yawn-inducers...But hey, you DID say you wanted to know *LOL* So here ya go...

Some Christians do not allow instrumental music because there is no clear example of instruments being used in the New Testament church. In the Old Testament there are many examples of flutes, lyres and drums used in praise (most notably in the Psalms), but in the New Testament church, the only example was that of singing.
Many of these churches use Ephesians 5:19b, "Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord" as the foundation for this decision.
In addition, there is no historical record of the early church using musical instruments in worship. Some suggest that this was in order to be more covert in a Roman world, but this move towards a cappella music is not necessarily a quieter option - voices can be quite loud on their own. Furthermore, up until the church was first established, instruments were used in worship; after, they were not. Many churches question: Why change unless the absence of instruments is significant?
It is also important to note that each denomination (and each church and individual, for that matter) cannot be lumped together in this instance. While some people believe it is actually wrong to worship God with instruments, others take the 'better safe than sorry' approach - since there is no example of instrumental music in the NT church, they refrain from using instruments in worship as well.

The bible says God overlooked a lot of things David did because he loved David. The Old Testement book of Amos condems the instruments saying The people invent to themselves instruments of music like David. That is a condemnation.
Yes the Old testement was nailed on the cross. Read the book of Collossians Romans and Hebrews, you will find the Old Testement was fullfilled with the death of Jesus and was taken out of the way.
The churches of Christ beleive in speaking where the bible speaks and to stay silent where the bible is silent on spiritual matters. The bible is silent on the use of musical instruments in the New Testement Church.
They also study church history and writings of the early church leaders. Instruments of music was not used in the church for 600 years and two reasons were accreditex for this, one Jesus never commanded it which is a very good reason and two the pagans used musical instruments in their worship to pagan Gods.
People who justify the use of musical instruements also say baptism is not necessary for salvation and deny scriptures such as Mark16:16,Romans 6:3,4,5,6, Acts 2:38 1 corinthians 12:13 1Peter3:21
The bible says to not add to or take away from scripture instruments of music is an addition to scripture. Hear what Paul told the Galations in Chapter 1 verse 8,9 but even if we, or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. (9) As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have recieved let him be accursed.
Paul himself says that if any one including an angel from heaven preaces anything the apostles did not preach they are to be cursed. He felt so strongly about this he repeated it. The use of musical instruments is something different that what they the apostles preached a different gospel. do you remember what Paul said. He said let them be accurssed and Paul was an apostle of God chosen by the ressurected Christ.
Even if the book of Amos did not condemn David for inventing the use of instruments in worship the New Testement is what Christians are to honor but read Collassians2:14 this verse says the OT was wiped out and was agaisnt us and contrary to us and was taken out of the way.
Man says there are many churches and many faiths and many baptisms. this is against what Ephesians 4:4,5,6 says. Ephesians says there is only one faith, one baptism one Lord One God, not many, but one. The many faiths try to demonize the churches of Christ because they honor the word of God the bible as holy scripture that should not be taken lightly.
As you may have guessed I was in this church and a preacher 25 plus years. I am now pagan, but that does not change what the bible says. If I am wrong and the bible right, then i will not be suprised when I am thrown into the lake of fire, but if the bible is true then the Christians who denied baptism and added musical instruments will be very suprised on the day of judgement.

well on a logical note -- if we come as we are with whatever troubles, faults, needs, etc.... To make a joyful noice unto the Lord -- Joy is an emotion that can only be evoked by people and not instruments. We are the instruments! There is a difference between gospel vs worshiping the Lord in praise and song as you are the instrument all is needed is YOU

My church does not allow instruments (yes, Church of Christ) and it is because it does not explicity say in the bible to have instruments in the worship service. It doesn't say NOT to either, but I think it's like erring on the side of caution.
But I have been to churches where they have instruments and I didn't like it... all the drums and stuff were so loud I couldn't hear anyone sing! So I like not having instruments, but perhaps I am hopelessly old-fashioned. :)

Because all Christian denominations have their own private interpretation of the Word of God.
