Ive lived in Saudi for a few years

It was really interesting so I did a research onto this because I wanted to drive a lot.

Theres no written rule that says women cant drive. Its more of a society thing.

Some cities are different than others. Riyadh (the capital) is really strict in nature, their people are really strict too compared to people who live in the east or western coasts of Saudi.

The government wanted to write a law that allowed the women to drive but the people including some women actually objected big time. Their laws exist to make their society happy, not the foreigners and thats how its supposed to be honestly. But theyre just like that.

Most women have their own drivers, and live pretty posh due to these cultural choices. I dont think they want to give that up.

But its not something that should be a reason to blame the culture for, or bash or create hatred just because theyre different.

Thanks for the question tho.

Saudi is Arabic for Fortunate. So when you say Saudi women, you are saying fortunate women.Saudi women don't drive because, they didn't want to, when the time came for that law to be made. Also because the women viewed driving as the husband's duty.If a woman drove herself everywhere, the man would be like, well you can drive yourself anywhere you want to go, so I don't have to do it.The husband would become lazy and he would be putting his burdon of driving to work,to school,to the mall,to the market,or where ever,on the wife.He would stop taking care of and providing for his wife!Saudi law makes men work,so driving is more of a burdon than a privilege, and the wife does not have to give him 1 cent for gas money,or even for gratitude.(I love going to the mall, and malls in Saudi Arabia are BEAUTIFUL,so I no I would want to go all the time, and I would not feel like driving!)

YOUR ALL WRONG. The reason is because some men of the Mutawa (religious police or members of the Virtue and Vice Commission) think that women driving will allow to tempation (such as meeting with secret boyfriends and doing illegal things). DONT THINK YOU ALL KNOW EVERYTHING! I have lots of Saudi girlfriends and even have been to Saudi and all the girls I know dont mind and love having a personal driver. Besides, have any of you even driven in Saudi? I dont think so. Let me tell you its CRAZY out there. Also there is NOTHING THAT SAYS WOMEN CANNOT DRIVE IN ISLAM. Even the Prophet's wife Aisha had her own camel. So dont be too quick to judge;)

no. woman have always been discriminated against (except in america, cus theyll hold out on us and that aint cool >: \ ) but if woman drive they have some power. if woman can drive then they will start to rebel against the men and reduce their power... eventually people will rebel all over the place, questioning ways of life, religion, jobs they do. itll be just like medieval Europe : D

Aalia u really over reacted. i mean damn girl. calm the **** down. nobody really cares if uve been to saudi arabia or not. nobody cares if u have friends from there. you need to calm down and learn to not be a ***** wen ur answering questions.

I am MUSLIM and I have my own car, so does my mom. Saudo women dont want to drive because they would rather just sit in the back sit and rest while men do all the driving.

Saudi women have no rights in the Kindom and the King will never allow a women to drive. It would be direspect for a saudi women driving a car and pass a saudi man. In Bahrain they do allow all women to drive go figure

ok, um I stay in Saudi and that i completely understand why, and that i agree on it... first of all, there are lots of people who % their women individuals to tension, yet there are others that stand apposing to tht theory. 2nd, it has no longer something to do with Islam it has to do with how the individuals are third, you will locate people claiming the great women individuals's protection and all however the element is, that's all with the aid of adult adult males there. i do no longer % to trash Saudi. yet lots of adult adult males act very... stupidly. they actually harass women by ability of throwing their numbers at them, following them homestead and then in some way they get their telephone style and make contact with and and so on. They flow to the quantity of throwing pebbles at them in the event that they forget approximately approximately them. that all and sundry occurs mutually as women individuals are with their drivers...what could take place in the event that they have been utilising on my own?? i think of this is the main reason..

PAAAPLEASE you all are so ignorant. I mean IGNORANT! Women in Saudia do drive. They drive in less congested areas, like in the south. They are not allowed to drive in the cities for many reasons. Although not allowing women to drive is a more of a Saudia culture, Muslim women are allowed to drive.
