Someone told that that Jesus came from the house of David and that was among the proof he is who he is. Being christ and all.

Someone also once told me that it was Joseph and not Mary that was from the house of David.

Im confused about that part. Since Jesus was not Joseph's biological son how come they can say he came from the house of David.

Of am I wrong and it was Mary that is from the house of David.

In Biblical times, lineage was determined through the male line, so naturally, Jesus lineage was listed through Joseph even though Jesus was not Joseph's biological son.

Both Mary and Joseph were decendants of David's line. Even had Mary not been a decendant of David, Joseph having adopted Jesus as his son gave him the legal right of inheritance as well as the right to use the liniage of Joseph. (It wasn't necessary because Mary was also decended from David's line.)

Jesus is an off spring of David. David was a King and so on down the line. I believe there were 13 generations from David to Jesus. God chose Mary because she was a Godly woman and God knew her heart.

They were both from the house of david. Joseph came through the line of solomon amd mary came through the line of nathan. Both solomon and nathan were sons of david. Mathew chapter 1 traces the geneology of joseph through solomon. Luke chapter 3 traces mary through nathan.

Jesus was from the house of David, even though Joseph was not a biological son of Joseph. God chose Joseph to be His step dad.

The Messiah will be of the seed of Abraham, the son of Isaac, the son of Jacob, of the tribe of Judah, in the family line of Jesse, of the house of David.

To explore in further detail, we first notice that these prophecies use a male pronoun when referring to the Messiah's gender. This excludes half of everyone who has ever lived ( the women) form the pool of candidates.

Abraham had two sons, one of whom was Isaac. Thus half the men who have ever lived who are descended from Abraham are excluded from the pool. Isaac also had two sons, one of whom was Jacob. This eliminates half the male descendents of Isaac from the pool.

Jacob had twelve sons, one of whom was Judah, which eliminates eleven out of every twelve of his male descendents from the pool. Judah had five sons, which eliminates four out of five of all his male descendents. Jesse fathered eight sons, whom was David,. This eliminates seven out of eight male descendents of Jesse from the pool.

Lastly, David had ten sons, eliminating nine out of ten male descendents of David. It is obvious that the Messiah was someone extremely specific and that the pool of candidates is incredibly small. Not just anyone could not make that claim and be taken seriously.

Mary
Actually I think Mary and Joseph were but that it was through marriage and that Mary and Joseph were not "related" before they got married. You need to check that out with the BIBLE though. A full genology is there.

I have asked this question a couple of times but had no real response.

Mary was NOT of the house of David, therefore neither was Jesus.

For this reason, the prophecy was not fulfilled
