As long as people belie that their way is the one and only true way there will always be multiple churches and ways of life. I doubt there will ever be one church unless the world becomes a monarchy.
We are all different. and we all have the idea that we are right. This idea that we are right is essential to most people's survival. If everyone came to grips with the fact that no one on earth can achieve the real truth, lots of people might give up and just stop looking.
Most people don't want to spend their whole life looking for something they can never find, so they take a shortcut and declare that their way is the real truth, without much speculation. Gurus and wise men have come to term with the truth of reality and spend their days contemplating and asking questions..
The only way one can come to a conclusion is to die. We have to realize this.. but until then there will be a thousand men saying they have found the way, but it is really just their own egotistical visions of reality.
I guess the moral of this story is: don't follow someone who is chasing their tail. Ask your own question, speculate on your own thoughts, then dive into the great divine when your time comes and see how far off you were :)

My church is all over the world, no matter what country or city or town I am in there is always a congregation nearby that teaches the same thing all over the world.
As for all the churches of the world? They will never become one. All the other churches will be destroyed and the true Church of Jesus Christ will be over the whole earth.
the Spirit of Gad helped people to see that the Catholic Church was in ruins and with out proper Priesthood authority, and so they split off and created their own 'more correct' church. While these churches did not claim to have authority from God, they taught many good things. Bad people killed the apostles an prophets, and so God called a modern day prophet. He did it after Adam died, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Christ. God is always the same, and he simply followed the same pattern.
There is a modern and living day prophet today.
Why would God pull away and ignore us when we need him most in these latter days? he is not ignoring us, he loves us and weeps when he sees what has happened to this world.
"A general falling away from the truth occurred after the death of Christ’s Apostles. This is called the Apostasy.
When Jesus Christ lived on the earth, He established His Church. After His Ascension into heaven, His Apostles carried on His work under His direction, through revelation and with His priesthood authority.
After the Apostles and many righteous Church members were killed and other members departed from the truth, the Lord took the priesthood authority and His Church from the earth. Without God’s priesthood authority, the Church no longer functioned as Christ had established it. The ordinances were changed and many plain and simple truths were lost. While many good people and some truth remained, the original Church was lost.
The Apostles prophesied of the falling away or Apostasy. One example is Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians (2 Thessalonians 2:1–3).
"The Apostle Peter prophesied of the “restitution of all things” before Christ’s Second Coming (Acts 3:19–21). Having been lost because of the Apostasy, Christ’s Church and His authority were to be restored to the earth. This Restoration would make available the opportunity for all to receive once again all of the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Joseph Smith’s First Vision marked the beginning of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth. In subsequent years, Christ restored His priesthood and reorganized His Church. He has continued to reveal truths to His prophets and to restore the blessings that were taken from the earth for a time. "

No way could there ever be only one church as long as mankind runs things. No matter what religious profession most people say they are, the god they serve is the god they look at in the mirror every morning. And now you know why there's more than one church - because people are prone to worship themselves.

According to the bible there is only one church. Read Ephesians chapter 4:4,5,6.
There are many churches today because Satan has caused confusion and made man believe are many. Jesus said he would build his church not churches.
So if the bible is correct and if Jesus is the son of God there is only one church and all others are counterfeit. All those fundamentalists WHO label churches who say there is only one a cult do not understand the bible.
Don't believe me Read above bible verse and ask how many one is. How many faiths does it mention, how many baptisms? how many churches?

the christian denominations started out as one church - catholic. then people disagreed and some broke off to form their own churches based on what they believed, then others broke off from there. i don't know if they can become one but my theology teacher says that that is what God wanted and that they are trying to move toward that.

because people have different aspects of how they think you should enter into his presence even though the BIBLE says to come as you are. And because people in Africa can't come over to San Diego, California ever sunday and wednesday for church that's just redundant.

My church - the Church of Religious Science - has banners from all the different religions hanging from the ceiling. We teach all the good stuff from all the different religions of the world. There is just one God - people just call It different things. Religion is just a way to get closer to God. Different religions work differently for different people.
I was raised a Catholic - and it didn't work for me at all. I was always fearful and feeling guilty. And yet - my Mom is a fabulous Catholic - and loves following all the rules - and does a great job of it. We both still believe in the same God - we've just found different ways to get clost to It. Still - I dont want to go to her church - and she doesn't want to go to mine. Religion is kind of personal.
Asking why there isn't just one church is kind of like asking why there isn't just one kind of way to get your coffee at Starbucks.
