It's been a while since I've seen a live show, and I hope to go with some friends sometime this Spring. What show would you recommend that is completely hilarious without too much crude language?

Light in the Piazza was awesome, but I think it's closed. If you can find it playing somewhere, see it.

Last year's Tony for Best Musical went to Jersey Boys, and The Wedding Singer is supposed to be hilarious (I've heard some of the songs, they're great, really fun 80s stuff). Also, Sweeney Todd was revived last year and if it's still playing, it is fabulous dark musical, funny and super dramatic, with unbelievably intricate and powerful music. I love that show.

Spring Awakening is supposed to be the next big hit, but it's pretty racy. Teen suicide, sex, masterbation, all in the 1890s. If you're a theater junkie, you might want to see it to A) see if it's any good, and B) if it is, so be able to say you saw the original cast.

Also, The Apple Tree is being revived with Kristen Chenowith, and the premise and some of the songs from that show are pretty cute.

I'd love to see a show in NY! Have fun!

Rent is funny but can be pretty crude in content (at least from what I've heard from the soundtrack).

If you like fantasy and the Wizard of Oz, go see Wicked. It's a great story and the music rocks. The characters are great-- Glinda is so funny! It's also a good one to see if you want to bring the whole family because kids love it (as do people of any age).

ooooh! i'm so jealous! i loved seeing the musicals in new york! when we went, we saw spamalot, rent, and wicked. they were all amazing! i'd say that spamalot was the funniest, but the type of comedy was a bit forced. the music in wicked was INCREDIBLE. rent was pretty good, too, but there was some crude language. hope you have a great time!

wicked! or rent. wicked has great music and is really funny at times, but its completely different from the book, so if you read the book already, prepared to be surprised. and rent is just a plain classic. i'd suggest either.

Grey Gardens is my favorite musical right now. However, if you just want hysterical funny, hands down it's Spamalot.

Wicked. It's pricey, but the music is great and there are plenty of funny moments in it.
