A dialer is a malware which activates your dial-up connection without your notice and provides information about your activities to the manufacturers. It also automatically downloads other malware from the internet and so is potentially very dangerous. Either delete or quarantine the dialer that was detected on your computer.

A program that is often used to maliciously redirect Internet connections. When used in a malicious way, it disconnects the legitimate connection used to connect to the Internet and re-connects via a premium rate number (1-900 numbers). Often, the first indication a user has of this activity is an extremely expensive phone bill, as the victim (account holder) is being charged for the amount of time connected to the premium rate number. Malicious dialer programs are a type of spyware that can install itself to your dial-up settings. [Adapted from Panda Software]

A dialer program is sort of like a phone home app, you definitely want to remove it asap. This program can be used to access various Web sites by dialing a high-cost phone number using the modem. The sites that can be accessed are mostly pornographic.

There are a number of different types of dialer programs
none of them good by any means---
There are those that track down information within your system and then dial out on your lines to dump the information they have found about you into their homesite
Others avail themselves of your connections and dail out to toll lines where they rack up some extremely high charges to phone destinations set up expressly for the purpose of charginng you outrageous toll charges for the connection !!!
All in all they are vicious little snots and should be searched out and their nasty little throats slit where they are found !!!
If you've had one on your system-- hopefully you got the little troll before it has racked up any charges or lifted info from you---you should search for them at least every two or three days if you are online very much at all !!!

Better to be on safeside. I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html
