The six figures sounds great but is it the kind of job that will wear you down in a few years? Working at the white house? Man! One must be the best of the best to do that and if you have it then you can go anywhere and get a job with that in your background after you leave your job at the white house. Go to college?? You know what?? No matter what you do you are a winner. You win all around.

Stay in the Army go to college become an officer if you aren't already. by the time you get out of college the war and Bush's term should be up. Thus your experience and know how can go into refitting and rebuilding the Army. Also officers do make a lot especially when the bennies are added into the equation. If your dead set against the army take the 6 figure a year job and use your college money as needed to improve your career. GOOD LUCK KID on whatever path you choose!!;-)

I know somebody on Whitehouse duty. If you're not gung-ho career minded(I don't think you are), then don't do that. It's very stringent. If it doesn't make your carrer it'll break it.
I believe in furthering ones education. However, If you have the opportunity at a medium-low risk job there for big bucks(I know a guy doing that too), then I say do it for a year or two then go to college on your GI Bill. Now, you've got your degree and money in the bank. I'd buy a house near school, rent out a room(or two), and when school's finished sell it. So long as your don't tear the place up, the property value should rise naturally.
Besides, if you rent, you're never getting that money back. By buying, you can recoop you monthly costs. And, a mortgage is cheaper than rent anyway.

It's all a matter of numbers, likes and dislikes. How many years do you have in the military? Do you like the civilian job you will be doing in the sand? Do you think you would like the job at the Whitehouse? (btw a friend of mine is there WCA, computer geek and hates it) Do you know what you want to go to college for?
If you have the GI bill you can always get college paid for. The civilian job might not always be there and it's a good chance to make some $$. DC traffic sucks.
Make a list of pros and cons for each, then get someone to look over it with you, then make your choice.
Good Luck

Ok Mike. I wasn't in love with the military when I served my time. So I would vote for the education. Spending time at the white house would be out of the question. Its the seat of insanity. A 6 figure paycheck sounds enticing but at what cost? Will you still be alive to cash the check? A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. No pun intended.

Well what i would decide, is can you make the 6 figures for one year, then go to college and get your degree? Staying in the military is a tough one. My husband is in, and wants out, but we now have 2 children and a baby on the way, a car payment, bills ect....makes it hard to just get out. You are lucky you have options open to ya....the 6 figures a year would be great for a year, save some money, then you can go to school full time. Also, you can always rejoin the military. Some people have done that. Now you just have to decide which you are doing. Good luck to you whatever you decide.

working at the white house may sound grand, but if you aren't happy with the army then no place you go will make you happy. going back to the desert to make money isn't a good idea either. too dangerous and money isn't worth your life. there is alot involved in trying to make that amount of money and i doubt you will come out making as much as they say. go to college and get your degree. you'll be able to do more things and be a heck of alot safer in the united states. good luck to you and merry christmas!!

The six figures is tempting, isn't it? That part of the world is so dangerous (and even more dangerous when you aren't wearing a uniform) that I would avoid it at all costs. Be satisfied with getting a good education, maybe even a master's degree and go to work in the USA. You've done your service, now enjoy the freedom you've earned.

You have to decide what you want for the future rather than what sounds good for the present. You'll be glad you did in the long run. It sounds like you have a lot of opportunities so you should weigh them carefully.
Don't forget to take into account the risk you take if you choose to go back in.
Good luck whatever you choose.
