My dad is going to have this procedure done at OSU in Columbus at the first of the month. Anyone familiar with the outcome? Has anyone had this done?

I had a patient a while ago that had it done. They have a bit of pain initially, but painkillers help. discomfort over the stomach is more a complaint than the pain. Good luck to you and your dad. The procedure is ABSOLUTELY worth it!!

is a procedure that involves removing cancer of the exocrine pancreas completely,i haven't had it done but i know 30-50% of patients have complications even when the surgery goes well, some of these complications are:leaking from the various conections that the surgeon has to make, infections, bleeding, trouble with the stomach emptying itself after eating,so if your father is having this surgery done make sure is from a very experienced doctor and that the hospital has extensive experience with pancreatic surgery.

Panceratic cancer is rarely curable. It will prolong his life expectancy, but it is not a cure.
