The Physiological Theory :Proponents of this theory stated that science has proven that we yawn to get more oxygen into our system or to rid ourselves of excess carbon dioxide. Yawning is contagious because everybody in any given room is likely to be short of fresh air at the same time.
The Boredom Theory: If everyone hears a boring speech, why shouldn't everyone yawn at approximately the same time, wonders this group.
The Evolutionary Theory: Many readers analogized contagious yawning in humans to animals displaying their teeth as a sign of intimidation and territoriality. Larry Rose of Kalamazoo, Michigan, argued that yawning might have originally been a challenge to others, but has lost its fangs as a aggressive maneuver as we have gotten more "civilized".

I'm thinking that there are a few reasons that people yawn.
1 - To get oxygen to the brain.
2 - To stretch the bottom of your face and throat. ?
3 - To hint to someone that it is time that they left and went home .
4 - To be really rude to someone when they are talking.
5 - For tweaks to fake so everyone thinks that they are tired.
(and it is so cheesy to see these tweeks act tired, like
they are trying to win the acadamy award.) hahaha
Aw crud..now you got me yawning...
Isn't it said somewhere that yawns are catchy?

The idea of increasing oxygen intake and blood pressure seem likely, but we don't know for sure yet. A fetus in the womb will sometimes yawn, and they don't even take oxygen in through their lungs...so ?

A yawn is an autonomic reflex reaction to increase the blood/oxygen level.

well- you know how we tend to yawn more when we're tired? well, that's for a reason! when we're tired, our breathing habbits naturally slow down. yawning is a spontanious way for our lungs to gather more oxygen then they are currently getting!

this is because we are tired. it could also be due to a lack of oxygen content, hence we yawn to absorb more oxygen.
