what is a good program to use with my jvc GR-D372U camcorder?

for some reason it dont work with windows movie maker and i called jvc and they said look for another program. do yall have any suggestion why my computer dont detect my camcorder.

Adobe Premiere works for me. But there are others.

I am assuming you have a Firewire card in you computer.
