I don't want to embarrass him, but this problem has gone on long enough. Thank You

Welcome to the world of boys. I don't really understand why, but the majority of males I've known in my life have some pretty icky underwear. At first I wondered, was it just the guys I know, but it has become a topic of discussion in a variety of groups of wives and even the material used by comedians.

I would just mention to him that his underwear is showing signs of hygiene problems. Then gently tell him that it's important to keep clean to avoid getting infections; plus being clean will keep anyone from smelling anything undesirable. No smell = no one will pick on him for smelling like poo.

Don't insult him. Don't say he's dirty. Don't try to shame him. Likewise, don't lecture him either (because really, who actually listens to their parents/grandparents when they lecture). Just be casual about it.

You may want to try getting flushable wipes as well. (I would avoid getting the "kid" wipes since friends may make fun of him for needing "baby wipes." Just get the kind you would get for adults.)

And if you can find a way to stop the mystery marks in the underwear, be sure to share your secrets with the world because women everywhere want to know.

Between 9 and 13, boys seem to lose the sense of smell and develop a fear of water and soap. The "racing stripes" in the underwear are not necessarily the results of not wiping well. This is also the age of the non-stop farts. Some of them can be quite wet and staining.

But on the assumption you know for certain the problem is not wiping well, this is an ackward age to bring up the topic. From your question, it sounds like you've passed up a better time (when he was younger) to discuss his anal hygeine.

The question is who is going to embarass him. A parent or a friend. In a really smelly situation, one of his friends is going to suddenly pop up with, "You smell like sh*t!" and a nickname will be born. You really must address the issue.

I wouldn't wipe his butt for him to teach, but hand him a mirror and explain when he finishes, there should be no poop on his hiney. Wet wipes may be usefull, but probably not needed.

The plain facts are that boys just do not care about wiping thier butts! Every single little boy I know wont do it not matter what. I have a four year old and no matter what I do he WILL not wipe his butt. I have spanked him, talked to him, rationalized with him, yelled at, tried to tell him to call me and I will wipe for him, everything and nothing seemed to work. Men have been this way since the beginning of time I doubt it will change any time soon. Good luck!

My daughter is 5 and I buy the children's flushable wipes for her. Your grandson is a little old for this problem, but it sounds like no one ever corrected it before! I am glad you're stepping in to help the poor boy out. :) I would just tell him that you've noticed that he needs to wipe better. Tell him that it may embarrass him, but it is far less embarrassing for you to tell him than for one of his friends.

Definitely a boy thing. Everything they do is hurried. I always kept unscented baby wipes near the toilet. It got them a little bit cleaner.

tlk to him alone about it. its the best solution. you dont want to hide that from him. let him know the importance of hygene && to make sure he wipes a little bit better next time. if it consits tlk to his mother about it, maybe she can practice with him before he getss any older but whatever you do dont wait much longer because hes getting olderr. =]]
