If one reads the entire Bible over and over, they will eventually discern the theme of the Bible, the theme of God's message, and the theme of Jesus' reitteration of God's message.
which is:
Harmony is harmony.
Disharmony is the most common sin against God.
in the above verse John 8;34, Jesus is telling me that "sin" will possess you, and Jesus who loved to talk in parables, seems to have a subtle parable in everything he has said.
To me: This verse also says that Possessions will create sin.
And what is sin? Sin is Disharmony. Disharmony with God, and or Disharmony with the God's children.
Review of what I see:
Sin will possess you.
Possessions (and the love of possessions) will cause you to Sin.
Slavery can be voluntary or involuntary (indentured servants)
You are a slave to sin, in that you are a slave to holding on too tightly to your possesions.
My going away thought to myself:
Possessions are called possessions because they can possess your mind and spirit.
Dear David T - Good point, you have found a way through Jesus to escape from Slavery to worldly possessions and selfish worldly values.
verse 36: How does Jesus set you free of being possessed by the love and slavery to possessions?
By giving you something that is much much more valuable than possessions. By giving you eternal life, after your stay here on Earth.
Maybe we should start a special chat group for a study group. But first i must tell you of my hang up. I believe in the living words of Jesus and everything he ever said. But quite, frankly I don't trust most of the other verses in the Bible. I believe the salvation parts, but I don't trust my interpretations of non-jesus verses. And, I certainly don't trust the Bubba Preachers interpretations of verses not directly connected to Jesus. Jesus is my saviour. The Bubba preachers are not my saviour.

We inherited inborn inclination toward wrongdoing from Adam and Eve.
However, John 8:36 says: Therefore if the Son sets YOU free, YOU will be actually free. It is just a matter of taking in knowledge and exercising faith.
According to 1Timothy 2:3,4:
3 This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, 4 whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth

It is true. It means; truth is the target, whoever misses the mark has come to the wrong conclusion, and if they insist on those conclusions as truth, closing their mind to other ideas, then they are held in bondage by those false ideas. But the truth shall set you free...--------This applies to any pursuit of knowledge, not just religious knowledge.

It is true. However, for there to be a sin, there must be a deity, and since there is no deity, including the deity in the Bible, it's a moot point. No one can sin, and thus, no one is a slave to sin.

There is a difference between sinning and practicing sin. If we sin we are covered under the Blood of Jesus. But if we choose to practice sin, then we will be accountable.

To me it simply means, that living in sin, causes us to be a slave to sin. In other words, sin becomes our master. Christ sets us free from sin. If we choose not to accept Christ, then we are controlled forever by sin itself.

It sure is true. Just ask an alcoholic if he is a slave to his bottle. I used to be a slave to a bottle, but Jesus set me free, just as he promised.

in my opinion, i'm an excellent fan of Thessalonians 2, verse 12 -- it somewhat is not anti-gay or something like that, yet talks approximately condemning people, so it somewhat is cool. This states that those that have faith lies are going to Hell. So... the record of those going to Hell takes place to comprise the people who informed me to study the Bible interior the 1st place. candy, candy irony...
