You wouldnt have much problems making someone a hero, who saved you being stuck in a burning building.
Even if by the time you got saved that person would have been wearing a mask and looked like any other fireman...that guy would have been your hero.
Think about Jesus along these lines.
As you get to know him, he will become familiar to you, you will see how great he really is and he will be by your side, guarding and helping you many more times.

You cannot make your self believe. "For you are saved by grace through faith, and this salvation is not of your self, God gives the gift" (Ephesians 2:8)
"Faith comes by a hearing, and a hearing comes by the word of Christ." (Romans 10:17)
Begin to read the Gospel of John. Start in the 5th chapter. When you come to a promise, just pray, take God at His word, and let Him do the next step.

Faith is the basis of all religions.

And, it's recorded in history that Jesus died on the cross. Don't know how much that helps, but, look it up in your history books. It's in there.

Your premise is wrong. He DOES have a direct relationship with you even if you don't recognize it.

And my mother is my closest next of kin.

Well, you can't have a relationship with him if you don't believe he loved you enough to die for you. And i don't mean that sarcastically at all.

You'll believe what you can! You can't make yourself believe something! If you don't have a relationship with him, so be it!

That's a fair question. I dunno the answer either. Apparently it's a -- if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand -- kind of thing.

What a bummer that those of us who have to ask get eternal hell fire for not getting it.
