I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

You can network using peer to peer. If you have XP, it tells you step by step (help file: networking) how to do it.

But, you will run into the same problem, meaning yours will give the same problem on hers that AVG does.

Another one you can try on hers: Microsoft One Care. It is free. Download and clean. Chances are you may have problems.

If it is that bad, you are better off to reformat and reinstall everything on hers. Just make sure you back up critical files on a DVD or a CD.

Better way is to reformat and use the networking I mentioned earlier and set up hers as a clean 'puter.

no you have to install the antivirus on her computer. if you put the antivirus on a cd by burning it you could, but that isnt ethical. so just try to find a free one online and clean it that way. btw the way you keep saying puter instead of computer really made it hard for me to answer this becuase that is unbelievably annoying

Do an online scan of her pc. Use 3 or 4 scanners like antivirus.com or panda.com. This should at least get her pc free of virii for now. After that's all done google some free antivirus out there.

You can copy your anti-virus program to a disc, but first have your SIL boot her computer into "Safe Mode" by tapping the F8 key at startup. Once in Safe Mode, load in your anti-virus program, and then run it. That should take care of the virus, as long as the program's virus definitions are up to date.
