My brother is in the 3rd grade and his teacher told him that tattooed people aren`t allowed to donate blood. Just wondering if there`s any truth to this.

You can't donate blood if you've gotten a tattoo or piercing within the last year.

Well, yes and no. First, people who are tattooed ARE in fact allowed to donate blood...BUT there is a time frame from the day you get tattoed before you can safely donate.

If you get a tatt, you can't go imediately and donate because at that point toxins are not obvious.....after a specific time fram (not exactly sure how long) it is safe to donate blood. Now, just like anyone else you dont know if you have "toxins" or some kind of problem with your blood until a sample is drawn...when people donate blood, the donation is not imediately passed onto a recipient....the blood has to be tested to make sure it is safe and free of any problems.
So, to answer your question, people who are tattooed are in fact allowed to donate just like everyone else ;-)

Of course you can donate blood, but each state has different regulations regarding the 'wait time' for new tattoos. Check with your local blood bank or Red Cross.

I just recently donated blood, and the only deal is that it can't be a new one. You have to wait 6 months to a year before you donate.

i donate blood on a regular basis, and when i got my tattoo, they told me i had to wait a year. after that, i was able to keep donating. so the teachers wrong, he probably dislikes tattoos for whatever reason and was misinformed.

Last I gave blood I remember there was a warning or rather, a "note" on the confirmation notice that said that you couldn't give blood if you had gotten a tattoo in the last year or so.
