hi i'm 14 and have pierced my belly 3 times by myself( 2 unsucsesful, 1 infected) and my parents didn't know and they have strong neg. opinions about body piercings. my friend offered to take me to get it done prof. but i wasn't sure. do you think that i should pierce it again by myself or wait until i'm 18 and get it done professionally?

p.s it's a four year wait

p.s.s. are there any serious or minor side effects that could happen ex. damage to skin, stretch marks, pregnancy probs...etc.

well you are very naive and unpatient to pierce your navel on your own. you do not know the sterilization techniques nor have the machine called autoclave the professionals use... and NO boiling a sewing needle, or drenching it an alcohol is not sterilizing it! .

wait 4 years till you are old enough.. you have all your life to wait.. you probbaly are really scaring your navel and will only make it worse by attempting to pierce it again.... and yeah . infections can be very dangerous. you probably dont have a large ehough needle. the professionals that the proper needles, sizes and equiptment and the sterilized atmospher to do piercings in successfully. in a home with a sewing needle isnt.. you shoudl have learned the first time. when it got infected or you were unsuccessful. i think you would be smart enough after trying 3 times and havig it go bad another time it will go bad again..... so DUH dont do it! it will only most liekley get infected again and im guessing you dont even knwo the proper aftercare for them either..

(on this link it says "OR IF NAVEL HAS BE PIERCED UNSUCESSFULLY MULTIPLE TIMES"
http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Keloid
(you would most likely develop a few of these since you are usign the wrong type of needle (hollow needles make a clear cut through)

I dont think you friend wil be able to take you to a reputable place to get your navel pierced. in most states you need your legal parent or gaudian with you to sign for the papers. other than that your out of luck

but yes there are side effects for navel piercings. and you have already seemsd to damadge your ebnpought that im guessing you have navel scarring. but you would need to take it you if you were ever pregnnet. but im sure you diont need to worry about that now... stretch marks, (who knows) you cant get them from navel piercings. but there are other serious risks you shoudl take a look at, common with navel piercings....

wait 4 years.. give up trying to pierce yourself you dont know that to do, you dont know how to sterilize, you dont know if you have the proper anatomy for a piercing, you dont know the aftercare, and you dont seem responsible enough to take care of it, or get one at all since you have already tried 3 times. an dof course its going to be unsuccessful! but if you want to try again... and end up with a nasty lookign scar for the ret of your life them be my guest.......

wait till you are 18!

Gather all the information you can. Parents have a hard time arguing against facts. Don't go get it done somewhere willing to break the rules, because you never know the other ones that're getting skipped.

Also, if you have your parent's permission, they won't try rip it out when they discover it, and all it takes is a shirt that's tight across the stomach and they'll know something's wrong.

I'm not saying you have to wait, even though you're still growing and growth could cause problems in the healing, but at least do it the right way. Go to them with a mature attitude, not anything close to "this is what I want and I don't care if you say yes I'll do it anyways. this is just a formality." More along the lines of "Here mom, I wrote an essay on all the reasons why I want the piercing and the safety precautions taken at piercing shops."

They love it when you do your homework.

Please wait! I wanted to get my naval pierced when I was 15 but there was no way I was going to do it myself (have seen shows and heard stories where the naval has gotten so infected that it had to be cut out) and used the 3 year to make sure it was what I wanted and did some reserach into it, even went with a few of my older friends to watch them have theirs done whilst being moral support and spoke to the tattooists/pirecer. I got it done when I was 18 with no problems other than having to wear a 18ct gold ring as I'm allergic to sliver (whilst healing only) and now at 30 I still have it, with over 30 rings for it a mix of gold and sliver and am still loving it. I know it isn't as permanent as a tattoo but these things can go wrong even when done by a professional so all factors good and bad need to be considered. My friend had to have hers done 3 times (all professional) as the first 1 got infected, the second grow out and the 3rd on worked. Relax, before you know it you'll be 18 the years are going by so quickly these days surly it really isn't that long to wait? Maybe in the years leading up to your 18th you could do some research into it so you would know that all the side affects although I can tell you that stretch marks aren't one of them and as for pregnancy - the slkin round your belly gets so tight that you end up taking out the ring and it ends up closing up although I know you can get it done again after a while if you want.

My cartilage and navel piercings were about the same, painwise. Most places do use a clamp, it helps "center" the piercing. They mark the area they're going to pierce, clamp it, push the needle through, then follow it with the jewelry. It sounds more painful than it actually is. It does not matter what kind of belly you have at all.

i pierced my own belly button when i was 16 with my sisters ear piercing gun ,im 28 now and not once did i ever have a problem with my belly ring although when i was 18 i went and had a tattoo done on my belly and the tattoist asked me about my belly ring and who did it for me , when i told him i did it myself he said i was very lucky because id just missed a muscle in my stomach . if i was you i would ask the person who is doing the piercing and have it done professionally you could be having reactions to the nickle in the jewelery . ive been lucky that ive had no problems with mine ive also had children and i just took the piercing out . i still have the piercing in today.

YOu really should wait. because you ARE 14 you don't want to first off end up with some disease.

Especially since you've already tried 3 times by yourself you could posibly have pregnancy problems down the rroad and you will have a scar (very noticable one) once you decide you don't really want it anymore.

Just wait until your 18 and out of your parents house. life will be much easier if they have one thing less to have to throw in your face and one less grounding and yelling you have to hear. especially since they have such stron neg. opinions about body peircing.

what?! how in the world could you have pregnancy problems by jabbing a needle through your stomach's skin?! you really do not pay attention in health class...do you..??? first of all, you're a moron for trying to pierce your own navel. do you really think that it should take 3 times to work?? there is a reason people get paid to pierce and tattoo people. if you have an 18 year old friend that is taking you to get it pierced, unless the tattoo place is retarded, she can't sign for you. only your parent or guardian. your question gets dumber yet when you ask us if you should illegally get it pierced as well as go against your parents' wishes...or wait until your 18....umm...gee...let me think...that is SO tough..
if you have to honestly ask us the questions you ask in that last sentence...then you are not old enough to be getting anything pierced..sorry, but the truth hurts sometimes.

Idiot. Of course there are serious side effects. An infection in this area could be one of the worst since it's so close to so many of your important internal organs. If it spread it could lead to serious permanent damage or even death. Why would you try so many times?

definitely wait. i got mine done when i turned 18. it's really not worth getting in trouble with your parents, plus you may change your mind. my piercing left an ugly scar. they get infected very easily and they hurt for a couple of months when anyone or anything touches them. i don't miss mine at all. i am much better off with my nasal piercing.
