sometimes people call me m'am when they hear me talk on the phone, or if someone doesn't look at me closely and they hear me talk. I want to find some vocal exercises or therapies. I am very much not a feminine person, so this is really bumming me out.

I know how you feel - I'm 6'5" and about 210lbs, yet when I answer the phone or I order at a drive-up fast-food place I always get "hello or is that all ma'am"? It pisses me off to no end! I really don't know what you can do, but it happens to others, so I would just try and deal. Good luck.

I thought I was the only one! I work in a call center, and everyone calls me ma'am over the phone, yet I'm masculine in every possible way. And I've got a full grown goatee.

Don't let it get to you, man. When I first got my job, I tried talking in a deeper voice and it just hurt after awhile. Then I tried correcting everyone, and wound up getting into a verbal argument with a Mexican boy who as to my gender. So now I don't even pay attention to it.

Don't worry. We have unique voices. It doesn't make us any lesser of men.

I'm usually mistaken for a little girl. In fact, since i've been married, i've had a telemarketer call and ask if my parents were home. UGH. I wish you good luck..

i'm not going to say that i, personally, know how you feel, b ut i'm married to a guy with the same issue! and he thought he was the only one. but same thing...at drive-thru's, when they ask if thats all, he gets a little kick out of pulling up and hearing "that'll be $4.25 ma.....sir." but it does get to him at times. it's hard to take him seriously when he's mad if you don't know him. when we first met, he was phylically voilent on himself (punching walls, etc.) because thats the only way people would take him seriously!

Use your lungs when you speak. Also, chances are your voice will deepen when you get older.

Smoking helps......oh, but then you die. You could try wearing boxers instead of tighty-whiteys.
