My wife and I went to Christmas Eve Service tonight, and during the sermon we noticed (for the first time) Luke 2:5, then read ahead and couldn't any reference to their ever getting married. Did they get married? And how do other churches deal with Jesus possibly being born illegitimate?

"Espoused" appears in one of the translations, but not all. My Oxford Annotated says engaged, and other versions say engaged or betrothed. I hope this isn't just an argument about translations.

Matthew 1:24 does say he married her, but the contradiction seems unsatisfying, since an illegitimate Jesus seems so shocking.

In Jewish customs of the time, they were technically married when Mary was betrothed to Joseph.
That is, they belonged to each other from that time on, and neither could choose to marry someone else. But, the marriage could not be consummated until Mary was old enough.
Luke says though, that Joseph took Mary into his home, but did not "know" her (have sex with her) until after Jesus was born, and she was ceremonially cleansed.

No, they weren't married when Jesus was born. They were only engaged. That's why it seemed to be such a scandal at the time. Mary did not remain a virgin her entire life as some have for whatever reason made up. And if they were engaged don't you think they'd eventually get married? I mean it would make sense. Maybe there's no record of it in the Bible but I think it's pretty safe to assume.

I think you are confused about the definition of "espoused". Luke 2:5 says:

"To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife."

Espoused means to marry or to be given in marriage.

They were married.

Check out Matthew 1:24, 25

24 Then Joseph woke up from his sleep and did as the angel of Jehovah had directed him, and he took his wife home. 25 But he had no intercourse with her until she gave birth to a son; and he called his name Jesus.

Hey, did you know that Quran is the only non-christian book which speaks about the virginity of Mary. Virgin Mary was not married when Jesus was born to her. And she remained pious and pure throughout her life.

But who was his father? It was not any HUMAN. We believe that Jesus Christ (Peace Be Upon Him) was born miraculously by the will of GOD and he was 100% human.

Why was he born this way? He was born miraculously to be a sign from GOD. And he was a messenger of GOD, sent to guide mankind. He healed people, could raise dead to life ONLY by the Will of GOD.
