In recent months I have started to recall details of an important and long-ago relationship. Up until recently I thought that I had never even met this person.

Yes tramautci events do cause lost of memory. The mind blocks out what you can't handle at the time, or don't want to handle at that time. There are other things that can cause loss of memory, but most of them you will find all end up in somekind of tramautic event.

I remember my memory used to be pretty fantastic before I went to kindergarten. Then this girl got jealious of how everyone instantly loved me and wanted to be my friend, so she picked on me everyday. I'd come home every single day, just crying my little eyes out. And now I can't remember her face. I can remember her voice, what the classroom looked like, all of the other kids' faces, where I usually sat at and etcetera, but now when I call on those memories, I can replay everything but no matter how hard I try, I can't see her or remember her name.

But after kindergarten, my memory became pretty much non-exsistant. Sometimes I can't recall my age off the top of my head, my mom will tell me something very simple and I'll forget within 2 minutes and sometimes I forget my freaking eye color.

I do believe that trauma can lead to memory loss of many sorts. I don't really have any other explanation for my memory problem.

I have heard of people blocking traumatic events for the majority of their life and then remembering them for some unknown reason or some trigger. If it was that important of a relationship, sounds a little odd that you wouldn't remember it. You might try hypnotism to bring details to the forefront. Just be sure you want to know before you do.
