The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) made somekind of anouncement awhile back. Of in which stated hunters in Indiana will be able to use pistol/revolver ammo in a rifle starting 2007. Like the .357, .44 mag, 45LC, and others most likely to be used in a lever action. The question is I need a list of cartridges that will be legal to use. Something that I can use to show my buddies at the gun shop. I'm still looking but my searching skills seem to be lacking so far. Been looking at the Indiana DNR site ( http://www.in.gov/dnr/ ) with no list I can use. Just a bunch of pdf files I would have to read through. Any help would be great!

As to all responders, like 40. glock stated there is currently NO RIFLE DEER SEASON IN INDIANA! But it has been sent to the committee and moved forward and reacted on, Now all is left to do is DNR to set a season following the guidelines set forth, as mentioned by the 1st responder in detail. So to answer your question: Don't' jump the gun they still have to set a season for the use of C&R/Replica weapons, this could take some time and the DNR will make an announcment.

From what I read there, I didn't see any type of legislation for ammo mentioned. Now all you need to do is go to the DNR website and see what type of ammo they allow for regular rifle season, it stands to reason if they allow JHP, or JSP rounds for rifle, then they would allow the same for carbine caliber rifles, such as the 357mag, 44mag, 45lc, even 9mm and 40sw.The last two I wouldn't recommend hunting anything larger than a yote with.

Just to inform other responders, Indiana does not have any existing legal rifle ammunition as we don't have any legal rifle season except muzzleloading rifles.

I don't imagine that the "legal" ammo will change much.
