I can't stand all that rolling around on the ground. It's so gay! It should all be stand up. It's the way REAL men fight. You agree?

Well, I'm not in the UK, I'm in Ireland but I imagine things won't be too different. I suspect the 'no headshots' rule was simply a product of the competition he entered, as far as I am aware there is no particular regulation on MMA in the UK at either amateur or professional level (or even any firm distinction between the two) beyond what the individual promoter/organizer of the competition wants to institute. In Ireland there are 'amateur' events with no headshots, with headshots only while standing, and with headshots in all positions. I would guess the UK is the same. Your friend's coach should be able to find him a fight under a ruleset more suited to his current skill level, even if it is technically a 'pro' MMA fight against another novice fighter.

I'm an mma fighter. I challenge any guy who fights like a "REAL" man, to take me in a fight. I'm not trying to sound tough or arrogant here, but lets take a reality check. As far as street fights go, most end up on the ground. Go ahead and search youtube.com or something and find out for your self. In mma, there is a chess match going on. You must understand what the fighters are trying to accomplish before you can truly appreciate what they are doing. What looks like rolling around to you, in the case of skilled fighters, is an intricate, technical, dance so to speak. It's as much a "sweet science" as boxing. Besides, without a ground game, its called kickboxing. I used to feel the same way as you do when I watched the wrestling matches in high school, but now that I understand what's going on, my p.o.v. has changed. Then again, the sport is not for everybody; stick to redneck trailer court brawls if that's more your flavor. Also, how old are you? It's sounds as if your age may be playing a role in you comment.

I agree partially... I think that there should be a time limit for ground fighting...But it should not be taken out. Ground fighting proves your ability to manipulate your opponent. But, when there's no time limit, it would be pointless, because, till the end, there would be no techinique involved, just see who can hold on longer and take over. This is something good to learn, to not give up. But in a tournament, it seems quite pointless due to the fact that it wouldn't be a real martial arts competition, but all stamina with nearly no techniques.

This is how I feel towards it, just for reference.

Most all responses say it best, but also consider that the ground game is what sets MMA apart from all other sports. Plus it is just a strategy to gain position, then when they get ground and pounded that is a Real Mans fight.

going by your name i would say your version of real men is nothing like most ppls.there must be a reason you keep watching it if it's about gay men rolling around on the floor?like st g said change the channel.if they banned the ground game what would they call it then?maybe no martial artist mixed martial arts, where only the ref and the spectators turn up but theres no martial artists?hang on thats almost what it is now.hahahalol.channel 2 has a better fight night than mma .one of 'ems called sesame street.i'm with st.g on the k1.

You must be retarded. Why do you think its called MIXED martial arts and not muay thai or boxing? It's a science, each man has to figure out which fighting style best suits his physical talents. Why would a man with shorter arms try to box with a guy with longer arms that can hit harder? The thing that makes mma great is they have to adjust to people fighting games, and the guy that can impose their style and will on a particular night comes out victorius. Think about it for a while.

A full ban would be really cool but unrealistic, if they just call them on it or time limit it more it would be a little better. Another thing is alot of real fights do end up on the ground. I like to end it before they know it!

I don't agree. If you take away the ground, it would just be boxing then. Maybe you should get into boxing, you may enjoy that more.

It sounds as if mma is way too technical for you to understand what is happening during the fights.

DUH, thats why its MIXED MARTIAL ARTS! MMA!

I too get frustrated when watching it and it is all about the floor and rolling to get submissions, because that isnt my thing, but instead of trying to change the world, I change the channel, and watch K-1 instead, though no elbows allowed. :( or S-1 muay thai (with elbows allowed!! hell yeah.. now thats what im talking )

the ground game is pretty much nut grabbing..........but it's also a very integral part of fighting. if you take that away......you might as well watch boxing or kick boxing.
