Also, is a Nikon D70 with a Sigma 18-50 and 55-200mm lens kit for about 700 bucks without tax a good deal? I am sure it is, but I just want to get other people's opinions.
Thank you.

Sigma is a well-known aftermarket lens maker. You can not say that they are all good or all bad, though. Go here and see what they say about specific lenses:

Also, since you are using a Nikon, you will find that Ken Rockwell reviews other brands of lenses for Nikon cameras.

YES, it's all about the lens. Most people over look the f-stop. If you spend more money and get the lens that has the fastest f-stop you can take photos in lower light areas without the flash. I hate flash photography, so therefore I like to use the best lenses.
It's been a while, but the last time (years ago) I looked at the Sigma lenses, I thought they were cheaply made. Maybe not now...
I have always liked Carl Zeiss. here's a link: http://www.zeiss.com/photo

Sigma lenses consistently perform as well as marque lenses in independent tests - indeed, they may out-perform 'kit' lenses. You get what you pay for, of course - you will have to pay much more for a zoom with a fixed aperture throughout its range - but, as against that, the independents will still be cheaper than the marque.

I'm not sure what Webmaster tim is doing referring you to Carl Zeiss lenses. I wasn't aware that they made Nikon fit lenses
