It can live in the ground for up to ten years, but if you want to get a new puppy wait at least 6 months (preferably a year), disinfect all hard surfaces with bleach, and make sure that your new pup is up to date (and kept up to date) on all of their shots.

This will give you a better understanding of Parvo and how to treat it and how to prevent it.

The vet told us that it sticks in the ground for 7 years. That is why he didn't want us taking out pups to the park or other public places.

For a change we have a good question.

Parvo lives in the environment for up to 10 years. It lives in the soil, which means you can inadvertently bring it in and not even know it. The only way to kill it is with good old fashioned bleach, but I wouldn't advise that unless you have a puppy that was diagnosed with parvo.

our puppy had Provo and we already had another dog. the vet said the Provo wont hurt the other dog if already has its shots but you have to wait 6 to 8 months if you want to get a puppy. :)
