I get my dog marrow bones from the grocery store. They only cost about $3 for 4 or 5 of them. Even when the marrow is gone he chews on them. He is a pitbull so he chews up any other kind of bone way too fast. These actually last him a while. My friend gave his dog a giant bone that he got from Wal-Mart once. I dont know what kind it was, but it was about 3 ft long. I would never reccomend this bone because it gave his dog the worst diarreah you could ever imagine. There is no use trying to explain it because it is immpossible to belive without seeing it. It looked like 3 or 4 people took about an hour to vandalize his house it was that bad!

Raw bones are safe for dogs. Any cooked bone (including ham bones and those junky smoked bones that are sold as "dog bones' at stores) is not. Cooking changes the molecular structure of the bone and make the bone more likely to cause damage to the dog.

Do not give dogs the bones that humans eat such as chicken bones, because it can give them diarrhea. The best bones to give to dogs are the ones from pet stores.

I find marrow bones the best. You can get them cut into quarters. My dog's a rottweiler and she loves them. Good for their teeth. You can also get brisket bones. Of course all these bones are given to your dog raw as cooked bones can sometimes splinter.

Marrow bones are good but my vet said they DO have to be cooked or microwaved to eliminate bacteria. Even so, keep an eye on your dog when they have the bones. If you see them start to splinter, take the bone away. My dogs continue chewing on their marrow bones for months - they drag them out from time to time (I think they get bored) and chew on them over and over again. It's good for their teeth.

a product called milkbones are the only safe bones to feed to a dog because bones have a tendancy to split and end up in the intestinal tract of a dog and then you have some real problems.good luck and god bless.

NEVER chicken.
Ham bones, the ones you can get for soup are great. You just have to take them away if it splinters. You can get bones from the pet store too

Never give a dog a bone unless it is rawhide. My friend lost his German Shepherd from a bone that got lodged sideways in his stomach. Before he figured out what was wrong, the vet said it was too late it had made a puncture in the abdomen. Ham and pork products are too rich for dogs to eat. Stick with rawhide.
