Don't listen to the people saying that it's fine... it's not. As a matter of fact, it's one of the worst things you can put on a piercing.
ANY ointment on a piercing is a bad idea, that includes Vaseline, Neosporin, and triple antibiotic ointments. People, READ THE LABEL!! They say specifically not to use on puncture wounds (what exactly do you think a piercing is?)
Petroleum jelly, the main componant of all these, keeps oxygen out of the piercing (keeping the piercing nice and moist for all that bacteria to breed in!) It also creates a greasy barrier to keep water and cleaning solutions from effectively reaching your piercing.
Use moisturizer on your stomach if you must, but keep it away from the piercing, it's just not good news.
In conclusion, the next time you reach for that Vaseline, think of all the microbes having sex in your piercing.

yes vaseline is bad if you just had it pierced... it traps the discharge thats part of the healing process inside creating a moist environment. causing a good environment for an infection to form. are you sure your jewery isnt still crusting? I got mine done in june (6 mothsn ago) mine has also healed nicely but there is still crust on the jewely if you then oyu shoudl keep away from ointments. unless you have really dry skin in that are just try nto to get the lotions on/around the piercings...so if you keep the lotions and all away from the piercing you sould be fine.

It's not ok for a fresh piercing. If your belly button is completely healed then it is fine, but healing can take up to a year for that specific piercing. If the area around your piercing site is dry and peeling (and maybe sore) then it could be a trapped infection. If you just want a general moisturizer for the area your regular lotion is fine as long as you are not rubbing it into the piercing. Hope I helped.

Actually, it is VERY bad and dangerous!!!! Any sort of ointment will attract dirt and bacteria and hold it on the area of the piercing. You should clean the area 2X a day, and use a piercing aftercare (like H2Ocean or sea salt in water) on the area at least 4X a day for up to 6 months after you are pierced.
Go here: http://bodybydesigntattoo.com and go to the aftercare page or try http://safepiercing.org

Vaseline is pretty bad for most things but for piercings especially so. It needs to be able to breathe and the vas clogs pores big time. Soaling in warm salt water is best. No lotions on it. Ask your piercer for specific details.

Use the seawater stuff. The salt water will disinfect and aid healing at the same time. Neosporin moisturizes and disinfects; that would also be good to use. Vaseline would be bad because it is a petroleum based product; and could possibly cause an infection.

what you are doing is 100 percent fine.you must take time to keep that area moist with vaseline.because it has no irritants its plain as opposed to using perfumed lotions on your piercing which will aggravate your pierced area. keep up the good work. baby your skin until you are fully healed.

If it is healed up then the any lotion should work but I think the best thing to use (safety wise) is Neosporin :)

If you just pierced it, yes...
but if you've had it for a while, then, no.
You should be fine.
