It seems as though this guy always wants to "win" or have "one up" over me. I'm just being myself, not bragging, it's just I'm being myself in regards to as friends, family, money, career, intellectual aspects, etc. And anything that I mention, just because it's a daily part of my life, he has to prove something or will even go to the lengths of discounting my life.
Why would a guy do this? If he was intimidated or whatever, why does he still contact me? What could be his problem? Then he'll say he cares about me, and tells me to keep my chin up? HUH? I don't get it.

Sounds like he has problems with his own self-esteem.
Proceed with caution.
This doesn't sound like a fun relationship.

Well he likes you, but all men know that no matter what is said, women want a man who can provide for them, make them feel safe when they're scared, make their tough decisions for them, and generally just be a man (whatever that means to each individual person)

When he sees you outprefom him in vital areas it makes him feel like he isn't really a man, and that sooner or later you'll try and find a real man to make you feel like a woman, and he'll be out on his *** in the cold. Even if he isn't consciously worried that you'll dump him, it scares him to know he isn't fully in control, and at least to some extent you wear the pants in the relationship (to some degree he is your *****)

I guess this isn't exactly Politically Correct, but whatever cuz its true

He's the guy, they are the "man". It's in their nature. But this is over the line, Be careful and pay attention to what he says and how he acts. Have others present if you break up. Don't be alone.
