The united states is considered by many to be evil because of the evil that the united states does has such a impact.
It is about power. If country is very powerful then its good and bad deeds will have a large impact.
Firstly, what is evil? Is it bad acts? That is not enough. Evil is about using our advantage to make others suffer unjustly for our advantage. Pure evil is where we make others suffer for our own pleasure.
The united states fails the test of pure evil because it is not attacking others for its own pleasure.
The result of 9/11 is fear and while some responses are unjust, the purpose comes from fear and while they may be wrong, they are not evil.
Abducting people from afghanistan, finding out they are really pakistani aid workers, then dumping back afghanastan without money or identification is evil. There are many other examples of US evil, so don't get me started.
Promoting democracy and American values may not always be appropriate, but is symbol of goodness. There are many amazingly admirable qualities of the United States.
Lying about why to attack Iraq is something else. Being right or wrong, it bypasses the democratic process and jeapordizes the reason to do it. The result is unfortunate, but this is what happens when outdated corporate types like Cheney and Rumsfield run military campaigns. Their management style spectularly failed in business (Enron, world.com) and is not appropriate in government either.

Europe helped America gain it's freedom- uh! you seriously need to buy new history textbooks- the American war of independence was fought against the English- i think they may be classified as Europeans- the French aided the Americans mostly because they despised the English. i think you might find that the 1830 constitutional reform act predates your own emancipation declaration signed in 1865- so the Englsih were reforming their constitution so as to best avoid a social uprising while Americans in the south practiced slavery. i think you might find that the french or Parisian revolution set the benchmark for "liberty, equality and fraternity" long before the Americans ever thought about it, some of the greatest philosophers in humanitarian thought were european, kant, hume, locke, voltaire, plato, socrates etc. i think you may find it was the French who bequethed as a gift the "statue of liberty " to the Americans- so unless i am confused i think you may need to go out and buy a whole new set of books.

Evil is hard to truly grasp. Bush is often called evil when the name caller means to say ' I totally disagree. Our soldiers are being killed...'
Bush is not evil. One may be angry with him or believe he is making really bad decisions, but that is not 'evil'.
America is the most humanitarian country. Both via government and individual giving. If that is evil, I shudder to think what Iran, Hussein, N Korea, Hitler,,,would be labeled.

The USA helped Europe overcome Nazi-fascism and also
helped Europe and Eastern Europe escape Communism
and if not for the USA, they would still be under either
Nazi-fascism or Communist dictatorships.

It boils down to two things my friend: They are frightened at the idea of man not being in control of everthing, and to admit to the existence of evil, they must admit to the the existence of 'Good" and therefore God.

Because they do not want to. There are so many kool aid drinkers out there who hate America and accomplish nothing. They are life's losers who want to degrade anyone who makes something of themselves.
