Adam, God made out of dust,
But thought it best to make me first.
So, I was made before man,
To answer God's most Holy plan.
A living being I became,
And Adam gave me my name.
I did my Maker's law obey,
Nor ever went from it astray.
Thousands of miles I go in fear,
But seldom on earth do I appear.
For purpose wise which God did see,
He put a living soul in me.
A soul from me God did claim,
And took from me the soul again.
So, when from me the soul had fled,
I was the same as when first made.
And without hands or feet or soul,
I travel on from pole to pole.
I labor hard by day and night.
To fallen man I give good light.
Thousands of people, young and old,
Will by my death great light behold.
No right or wrong can I conceive,
The Scriptures I cannot believe.
Although my name in them is found,
They are to me an empty sound.
No fear of death doth trouble me,
Real happiness I'll never see.
To heaven I shall never go,
Nor ever go to hell below.
Go search your Bible with all speed.

For that my name is written there,
I do honestly to you declare.

(Hint:The answer is only one word and appears in the Bible four times. Using the King James Version will also help!)

The answer is: Whale

(So I was made before man) - According to Genesis, the "sea monsters and all kinds of swimming creatures" were made on the 5th day. Adam was made on day #6.

(Seldom on earth do I appear) - Whales swim underwater, only occasionally surfacing to get air.

(For purpose wise which God did see,
He put a living soul in me.
A soul from me God did claim,
And took from me the soul again.
So, when from me the soul had fled,
I was the same as when first made)

This is the story of Jonah and the whale. "Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights."

"Without hands or feet" - whales have fins and tails, not hands or feet.

"To heaven I shall never go, nor ever go to hell below" - Biblically, animals have no afterlife. "Real happiness I'll never see."
