I came back from the jacksonville MEPS, 3 days ago.My MOS is military police. I am going to Fort leowood,Mo for bct, in 1 year. I am going to Iraq in 3 years. What do i have to look forward to in iraq as a M.P. I heard stories, that MPs will have to raid houses and do the same job as an infantry soldier in iraq. Every soldier that i've met, told me the outcome of MPs staying alive or keeping their body intact is slim to none. Another question is it possible for me to change my MOS, or is it too late. Appreciate any advice. Once, i told everyone my MOS, they told me "good luck in iraq"

First of all, you guys don't know me well to make a judgement like that. I am not a lier. Yes, if you didn't know, at meps YOU can request to go to bct in 1 year, you BIRD brain of a loser. Yes, you don't get orders for Iraq in 3 years, commanders know when your unit is going to get to iraq and when you are an MP, well you *******, you are gonna go to iraq. The End.

Take it easy on the guy. He's braver than I am for joining the military during war time.
They will train you well. Yes, the war may be over in 3 years. The best defense I can give you is to be the best patriot for this country you can be. That will make your work there easier. I have a question for Metal ... what do YOU do for a living? And do you think you will ever do ANYTHING as important than what this young man committed to ??

I am a former Non-commissioned officer and soon to be commissioned officer in the Army... My experience is with the active duty component, but in my opinion, if you're a soldier, you're a soldier... I'm an artilleryman, but like you said, everyone's an infantryman first. Take your training seriously. The only reason those drill sergeants will be as tough on you as they are is that they know some day THEY could be the ones depending on you (in Iraq).
Second, don't be so hung up on changing your MOS. If you want to be an MP, be an MP. Every job has it's pros and cons. Every one of them is important and essential to the overall mission of the Army.
Third, from someone who's been to Iraq, do what you have to do to get back home safely. Pay attention while you're out there and don't grow complacent. Keep your wits about you and you'll be fine. Enjoy the things that you can - they may be few and far between, but find them and savor them.
A lot can happen in three years, so stop worrying now over something that may or may not happen... good luck to you.

Okay, first off, you are not going to Iraq in 3 years, it could be sooner or later. Rotation schedules change all the time anyways. MP's do not do the same jobs as infantry soldiers secondly, those are two entirely different roles. And who are these people who are telling you these stories with no real evidence or support? Did you know MP's are also used as customs in Iraq? or as Guards? Why would a recruiter lie to you about what an MP is? As a recruiter, I know you just go home and look it up on the net, and why would we want to have someone get pissed at us if we have to work in that community? There's no point!

MPs safety is no different than any other MOS in that zone. MPs are very similar to infantry. My husbands old unit just returned from Iraq and no casualties.

First off, i don't believe they would tell you orders 3 years in advance. My husband is in the Active duty Army and im sure its a little different, but if he is going to Iraq he gets 90 days notice. I have never heard of anything getting 3 years notice of going on a deployment. Besides that, if you were to be going, it would probably be sooner and do not expect that much notice. On a good note, thank you for your contribution to the military and hopefully you stay safe and sound. Good luck to you in all you do.

Deployment to Iraq relies upon on your MOS. no longer anybody is mandatory in Iraq and there are a number of roles that is carried out right here in the States. in accordance to the newspaper some months in the past, around 50% of the army and Marines deployed. national safeguard makes up fifty one% of the army. wrestle palms are area of the national safeguard no longer the army Reserve. starting to be to be a member of the armed forces potential which you compromise to do what's asked of you in spite of your own own ideals. whilst national safeguard is meant to stay stateside and respond right here, it hasn't been that way for an tremendously long term and that i don't be attentive to if i've got faith it became somewhat meant that way. Why could we desire infantry, tanks, mortars, etc whilst responding to failures? i've got considered many squaddies and their families ***** approximately being deployed... asserting they basically joined the safeguard/Reserves to flow to college... that is humorous that the soldier had to issues accepting the advantages yet whilst accountability became demanded, there have been court docket situations. the armed forces isn't for each individual. there's no longer something incorrect with that. in case you desire to serve your us of a/state/community, there are a number of procedures that is carried out. i desire you stumble on some thing that works for you!

Basic in a year, Iraq in three? You have no way of knowing that, period. 4 years from now there is no way of knowing that your unit would go to Iraq or what the situation there will even be.
