Vicodin is highly addictive. I have a bottle of it for pain management , I get 60 a month, it lasts me 3 months, so the doctor does not hesitate to give me a refill as I do not abuse it. However, I easily could. There are days that I am stressed out and the pain is not bad enough for it, that I could take one to take the edge off, but I don't, That is why it is so addictive, not only does it help with pain , it gives you a euphoria, and it does feel good. Doctors need to monitor the amount of drug the person is taking and will rarely refill a 30 day supply until the 31st day for that reason. I feel it is mind over matter, if you are strong willed you will not become addicted, the choice lies in your hands.

it's only given for powerful pain and of course in limited doses, the most common use for it is to ease out of the pain after a surgery or if you severely pull something in your body that you're not supposed to. But like all painkillers, it can be addictive, this is due to the close match painkillers are to endorphins, the body's natural painkiller and feelgood medicine.

vicodin is very addictive
it does however, help chronic pain..
just do not abuse it and only take the amount the dr prescribes
if you take more than you are supposed to
you will get addicted

Why is it given so freely??

Well, you obviously have never lived with debilitating pain.....

Addiction is an accepted risk/necessary evil when the alternative is pain that makes one consider dying as a viable method of pain control.........
