The NKPA had fallen apart. When in pursuit of a beaten enemy, one keeps on the pressure and doesn't allow the enemy to reorganize for later defense. Traditionally, the cavalry rushes pell-mell after the fleeing infantry, but the US had eaten (almost) its last horses in the Philipinnes some years earlier, also under MacArthur. Had he known he was running into 300,000 Chinese, he wouldn't have done so, but the Air Force had been flying a lot of recon, and had seen no troop movements out of China, and he erroneously but understandably believed they couldn't move that many troops without detection.

Knowing nothing of this act; im just making an educated guess.

Maybe he needed to cover to areas. Obviously he couldnt do that w/ 1 mass force, so he split them up and set one to cover the 1st area, and the other half to cover the 2nd.

53 years later and you are still mad. No one can sit here now and judge what happened then. some mistakes were made some hard calls had to be made. would have could have dosn't work when you are making decisions that will cost the lives of people who are trusting you to protect their asses.

Do you know how big a division is???????
He did this so they would be more effective and would not
be bunched up together and would not be in any danger
of being over run.

The only person that really knows why he did it is no longer with
us. Anyone who tries to answer this question is dealing in pure
conjecture.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a nice day.

Thank you very much, while you're up!!
