Our church used to be packed, had an awesome choir and the service was so inspiring. Now we listen to a simply horrible organist. He has a contract. Is there anything the congregation can do? The pastor really doesn't seem to care. We could all go to other churches, or is there a solution?

everybody needs to realize if they are there for the music or the message, and those that leave a congregation over something shallow, will find themselves in a congregation of shallow people with a great organist. patience is the answer here

think of it like a club (geez, I'm gonna get thumbs down for that too). If the organist stinks, the club owner is still under some contract to keep him. Telling the owner that the organist stinks isn't exactly offering him a solution. If it were me, I'd make the observation to the pastor and then go directly to the organist. Sorry, that's just me, direct (this is a people problem not even a spirituality problem).

I think you should find someone that is good or better than the organist you have now and show the pastor how good he/she is.
Maybe he will care then!

I don't as I don't go to church but I suggest mentioning it to the pastor and if he is still inert form a church group to fire the keyboard man .

You just tell him that guy does not know how to handle his organ. He keeps on dropping flat. His sustain isn't what it used to be. Be firm in your speach. Make sure he feels that your organ is important to you. And your fellow congregation. They are all also very attached to the organ. They know when somebody with unskilled hands touches the organ. He will listen.
