and If I miss taking it for a day or so the pounding starts up again. If I have a magnesium deficiency, how long does it take to replenish it back to normal? How long would I need to keep taking it, and what could be causing the deficiency?

Although it is always best to ask your dr. first most blood tests for magnesium don't always register even if you are low. So your tissues could be low in magnesium even when your serum level shows sufficient. Personally, magnesium helps me a LOT with my palpitations and angina. Also good to learn about your potassium levels and other minerals. I do find magnesium to be the most helpful.
