I have an infected cuticle. There is a reddish, painful bump on my finger now...and I soak it with peroxide 2 times a day...but the bump hasn't opened up and started to drain at all...so my mom wants me to go to the doctor and have it drained. What will this be like??? I don't wanna 'feel' it!!!!

Well that sounds exactly like what i had, except it was more under the finernail. I eventually got to a point where it swelled up fat it was yellow with puss. They numbed it and cut it open, they nurse explained that the womb would keep draining out and worse case scenario would be i lose my fingernail, although my finger was cut and skin peeled all where they infection was, my fingernail had to heal, i had a new cuticle grow since my skin peeled I can say now that my finger is completely heeled but that was in July when all this occured, so it took some months before it heeled, and it did hurt a little when they drained it because it is hard to numb the nerves in the finger

Try warm water soaks with a little antibacterial soap in the water (try to 3-4 times a day). Go to your doctor if you have any streaking up your hand or arm, fevers or chills. If it hasn't gotten any better in a day or two, call you doctor. If you are in generally good health, this should work.

I work in a clinic, and this is probably what I would tell you to do. If you have any underlying conditions such as diabetes, if you are immunosuppressed, or have any circulation issues... call your doctor. But if you are in generally good health, this should

I had this once. I worked in a hospital at the time, and must have gotten a real nasty bug in it. I spread very quickly from when I noticed the first sign of streaking. They never opened my finger, but after I failed 3 different antibiotics, I ended up in the hospital getting IV antibiotics (finger still intact).

There is no way to avoid some pain here. A shot to numb it will be just as bad as the lancing. I had to have some shots in a finger once and it hurt like hell. The procedure was lengthy or I would have skipped it.

I'm a nurse. This believe it or not can become very serious. Any infection left untreated can travel into your bloodstream and can become fatal. Please follow your moms advice and be seen, she cares about you, and so do I.
