I want to be with my family for christmas but instead Im in the bathroom frantically putting makeup on, washing it off because it looks so bad and putting it on again. My bf is pissed because Im not with the family, I wish I could be so bad. I can't go to far from the bathroom because I may have to wash my hair again because its gonna get greasy any minute now even though I washed it about and hour ago. My bf dragged me out but I can't talk to anyone because they have to look at my face and it is so ugly I just cant bare to let anyone see it. I had to spend time in the bathroom straightening my hair while evryone was opening presents. I tried so hard to go down there but as soon as I did I had to go and finish, I wanted to cry. No one understands and they tell me its my own fault but I dont want to live this way. Its not my fault, everyday Im like this I had to quit school and I struggle at work everyday and always get in trouble because I have to go to the bathroom and fix it

Adding to Tina's suggestion of OCD, OCD is not necesarily caused by trauma--often times people are merely born with it and it develops over time. It is a possibility that you have it, however, though I believe it is more of a perfectionist impulse than OCD. While the two are fairly close and often confused, they are importantly different---perfectionism isolates itself to the individual afflicted, making them feel subservient, unworthy...It often causes abnormally low levels or absence of confidence.

OCD does NOT limit itself to the individual, but causes much psychological distress over order or neatness and is often associated with a compelling urge to count things or to organize.

If I were to pick one of the two, I would say you are an extreme perfectionist. Explain your feelings to your boyfriend, and talk to your doctor. He may recommend you to a psychiatrist who can help you gain confidence. It isn't your fault that you are a perfectionist--but it is something that can be partially treated to give you a better, happier life.

Has anyone ever mentioned Obsessive Compulsive Disorder to you? The fact you are so afraid of your hair not being right, washing it alot, same with make up, etc, you are doing repeated things, that's an obsession, and you have the impulse to do it even though you don't really want to, you feel you have to.

This disorder comes from trauma of some sort, were you ever verbally or physically abused?

It's not your fault, it's a deficiency that happened to you, you need ot get some help maybe medications to control it. You will be ok, you just need to learn more about the disorder and how to help yourself. Look it up on the web, then Tuesday after Christmas call a counselor or psychologist and get an appt to talk about it, you'll be on the right path soon by doing that.

Be gentle on yourself you have a body image issue but consider the following.Maybe right now you need to look at yourself through the eyes of someone you trust and then trust the answer.
You need to adress this for the long term and seek good help. Don't let a real issue with real solutions allienate your friends and family.

It definitely sounds like Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). You need to go to a mental health professional...not your regular general practitioner to seek help for this. There are a lot of medications that are very effective in treating this as well as counseling. If not treated, it will ruin relationships and make your life so much harder than it needs to be. Please reach out and get some help!

I'm sorry, but you need more help than anyone can give you here. Contact a physiologist because what you describe here sounds like you might have a compulsive disorder.

PLEASE go see your doctor and get a referral to a psychiatrist. This is not something to be ashamed of. I suffer from terrible anxiety and depression and with medication I live a pretty normal life. I was once just like you. Mental health treatment works!
