I would plead "human". He should understand that, surely, having been here and done it. Humans are fallible, flawed things that live very much in their own mind. That he achieved what he did in terms of empathy is wonderful, but while there may be a "best way" to fulfill our potential as human beings, not everyone is going to measure up to that. I don't. I try, but don't succeed. I'd probably apologise for that, but it's the human being I am.
